  • Instructions Not Included

    Coming into this world, we are somewhat like a new, complex technology......but without the instructions.

    We are left with multi faceted challenges. The most important being, learning who we are, including all the details required to understand our traits, values and other deeply imbedded relative information

    while

    our lives are further complicated by being subjected to one constant........continuous personal growth and change

    while

    the world around us also keeps changing

    while

    all the others that inhabit this globe are going through the same process

    Many of us are fortunate, as we have an abundance of "instructors"/ supporters to guide us. However, even this adds new dimensions, particularly when we are misled or misguided, even if unintentionally, by those we trust.

    And somehow (through it all), if we are observant, resilient, willing and able, we can seek to improve ourselves and the lives of others....even amidst all this haze of complexity

    ~~~~~~~~
    No instructions.....no one said it was going to be an easy undertaking. Then again, it's not easy to measure the power of the human spirit.
      I could use some instructions, would make a lot of my life easier, and cut out some of my mistakes. Still having an identity crisis.
        It should also be noted, one should not overcorrect mistakes they never made, but witnessed others make... You might miss out on some things... I hope that makes sense to everyone else lol. yay for reminding myself things by telling others
            too kind.....
            hopefully some got the message.....each of us was born with a gazillion variables......if we were a new piece of technology, we would come with all the details as to how to get the most out us, all the descriptions of our traits....strengths/weaknesses and so on. Instead we "go live" on day one, basically starting from scratch, other than most of us are provided some of the pieces via family members; and going forward.....friends and other contacts.
            ....on the other hand, this can also be classified as an exciting game of survival.
            ....also, unlike most technology, we can adapt, and we can improve ourselves and make better the lives of others, once we determine cause and effect (and a whole lot more!!)
              there is something to be said for the collective unconscious however. are we truly a tabula rosa as locke would have us believe? or do we have previous knowledge on the genetic level as jung proposed? perhaps we just lack the password to the instruction manual at birth. and through introspection and understanding, or the trail and error of cause and effect as you said, we can unlock it. i do agree tho, that for those willing, and most fearless, the struggle can bring about the best in all of us.
                    lol... collective unconscious.... i had that term in my philosophy class... i should know it but its been a while.
                    Is it "That which we always already know"? or was that something else...
                    Edit: turns out it was what i thought it was... and when you mentioned Karl Jung, everything came back to me... the whole shebang about archetypes and stuff..
                    But anyways, i don't have an argument on either side so:
                    back to the thread
                      strangely enough, or maybe quite the opposite.....I understand.
                      Even stranger, I think you understand me......
                        i do. and it is strange when you get someone on a level higher than just the here and now. kindred perhaps? i can totally envision us sitting somewhere in antiquity discussing all the philosophic ideas then. oh wait, were doing that now! again... :thumb:
                          it's the "somewhere" that is compromised.....but, one can fall asleep at a crowded beach, or a busy locale......therefore, I guess folks can give their undivided attention in the midst of a public network. Well, for short stretches anyway.
                          (antiquity is a mighty fine word!!)
                            well if truly in antiquity than we would have had to be somewhere face to face cause no technological public networks existed then.
                            and thanks for the verbage props. i heart big words!
