My laptop started clicking!!!

i woke up after a nap a few hours ago... turned on my computer from sleep mode... and it started clicking!!! WOOHOOOO

jealous?


yeah...


that means the harddrive is BROKEN!!! WOOOT....


"NO OS FOUND"... YAY


i'm so happy right now...


i had all my school stuff on it, from notes to recordings... powerpoints to essays...


after 2 hours of trying to turn it on... it finally turns on... right now... so i quickly backup everything i can... before it goes bye bye for good...


its a new laptop too, yay...

To people who know things about computers... that clicking noise is 100x worse than scratching a chalk board... it basically means you are up a creek without a paddle...

Best Buy takes forever to get laptops back to people, so unless you can get them to swap out the hard drive on the spot I'd suggest hitting up newegg or something

yeah, well i have a few extra hdd's in my house that i'm not using that are even bigger than this one (not physically)...

i just want the crap that i have on it lol....


I am gonna go clone my hdd to the other one and see if bestbuy can do it on the spot for free or I'm kicking someones ass

Clone the dead one, or you had a clone backup?

Clicking usually implies hardware failure with bad platter or a bad hard drive motor. If its a bad platter you can sometimes us use the ibm repair tool on any hard drive to mark the bad sectors and use data recovery software to get back some of what you lost.

I have 3 words for you.

Solid State Drive

Less susceptible to getting banged around, quieter, and they have lower access time and latency than a regular HDD's. I wouldn't use anything else in my laptops. :thumb:

I usually pull the one in the laptop when I get it and sell it on ebay to help offset the cost of the more expensive SSD.

I've never had a drive go bad on me... sucked to experience that ... it was like getting a toe cut off... right before a toe championship (finals)

Yeah, but don't those have lifetime limitations as well? Such as a smaller amount of Read/Write cycles?
