    firstly, this is about iPods

okay, I'm not the most price savvy person when it comes to this ipod generation x with x Gigs, so I was hoping you guys could help.

My friend is selling their iPod 3 Gen 32 gig for 150 dollars. Sounds like a crazy good deal to me. I am really considering taking it.

I have an ipod, 2 gen 8 gig.

edit both iPod's are iPod touches by the way, and she's selling it cheap because she's getting an iPhone soon.

So two questions, what are both iPods worth and how much could I sell my iPod on a site like say, eBay? or how much do you think I could pawn it off for at a local pawn shop?

    Thanks guys

Sounds like a good deal to me. 32GB is a lot of storage compared to your 8GB.

If it's in good shape, runs well, holds a solid battery life; I wouldn't see why not.

The model your looking at came out in 2009, so it's not THAT old. There is only one newer addition which has a camera and able to run iOS4 completely.

iOS4 for the 3rd gen does run on it, but not completely. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4205

If you want to use your touch strictly for music and movies, and most 4.0 apps, the third gen would be fine for you. You're just missing out on the camera and facetime.

Don't really know how much you'd get for your second generation touch. A quick glance at ebay shows $100 or so. You may get more on craigslist if you can sucker someone desperate enough for a quick transaction. But it also depends on the condition it's in.

Don't know much about pawning items either.

Just remember though, technology flies. Every year a new model will come out. Me? I'm still using my FIRST gen ipod touch just fine. All I use it for is for music.

Heck, I was even using my iPhone 3G for a the longest time before I picked up the iPhone 4 around last xmas. And now, an iPhone 5 is rumored to come out.

Yeah I know what you mean Peerless about technology evolving so(too) quickly.

I'm mostly thinking about it for the extra 24 gigs.

what is even the difference between 3g and 2g?

      I know 4g has a camera and 2g came with a speaker.

        iPod touch (2nd generation)

iPod touch (2nd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.

The iPod touch (2nd generation) can be distinguished from previous iPod touch models by its contoured design and oval shaped antennae cover in the back upper left corner.

        iPod touch (3rd generation)

iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.

The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.
Here is also a great link: http://iphonehelp.in/2010/02/11/ipod...ipod-touch-3g/

In my own opinion, I guess 3G is just faster and such. I guess iOS4 can run on a 2G, but it sucks.

It might not be the right time for it for you, or you don't want the extra monthly money for it, but i'd say get a good android or iphone for that price.

The Evo with extended battery lasts me 2 days with moderate to heavy usage.

It comes with an 8GB mem stick, upgradable to 32GB. I got tons of music on mine and use it as my mp3 player.

If your die hard apple the iphone is nice too, I just don't like the option to not be able to get a bigger battery, which is desperately needed on these 4G devices.

But if you can't get the new phone tech right now or soon, the touch might be a good investment.

But for price comparison, a new one (32gb 3rd gen) on amazon is on sale for $250 right now.

Just a quick look on Ebay has used ones as low as $112, ends in 50 minutes.

It sounds like a good deal, if the battery is still good and if he has taken good care of it, not hacked it, and not done other dumb stuff with it.

Alastor speaks the truth. I have a 32GB iPod downstairs which can't retain charge, so it's essentially a very expensive coaster. Definitely make sure the battery life is still good before buying 2nd-hand.

Battery death is the number one cause of iPods needing replacement, and of course they haven't made it possible for you to just buy a new battery and switch them out, probably specifically because of that.

Well you can, but you have to know what you're doing, and it will void whatever warranty you might still have at that point in time.

No offense but don't treat me like a child, I'm almost 18 I know I know I'm young but its not like I have to ask them if I can do this or that for everyting...plus they didn't buy me my iPod in the first place so it doesn't matter.

Yeah this is what I was concerned about, whether there's anything wrong with it. If it can't hold a charge its no good to me anyway my current iPod's battery is great. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Bernie, I only asked because I have had several issues where parents call and want me to retrieve items their child sold or an item was bought but never received. Was just giving advice.

You posted here for advice and that was one issue I've seen with what you were talking about.
