  • Guy builds Ark

Seriously the title says it all, a guy actually built a real 4 story ark.

An hour outside of Amsterdam in Dordrecht, Netherlands, a ship is under construction. But this ain't your typical sailboat, bub. Johan Huibers is building a full-scale replica of Noah's ark.
Yes, that Noah's ark. And Johan, an expert builder, isn't skimping on the details. The ship, which he's been constructing for the past three years, is built to biblical specs. Johan culled information on the ark's size and shape directly from the good book. In the end, the ship is four stories high and the length of a football field. And yes, it's seaworthy.
The result is an incredibly impressive ship, especially considering it was realized simply by a man with a dream--or, perhaps, a nightmare. According to an interview with NBC's "The Today Show," Johan dreamt that Holland suffered a great flood. The next morning, he woke up determined to start preparing for that worst-case scenario.
The ship, which is not to be confused with the theme park in Kentucky that also honors Noah's ark, is generating a lot of interest in the search box. Over the past 24 hours, online lookups for "noah's ark photos" and "noah's ark real ship" have surged.
As for the craft proper, it's not complete yet, but it's getting close. The master plan is to sail the ship up the Thames in time for the London Olympics next year. Expect to see plenty of life-size plastic animals aboard (two of each type, of course).

In the link there is also a video.

But wow, humans give me a reason to

    on a daily bases now.

First a guy robbed a bank for a buck, now this.smh

I don't see what the problem is I mean it's not like he's hurting anyone in the process.

    It's like let him be.

      Not something I'd do,

I'l stick to restoring my 17 ft. flats boat.

      but,

gotta give the guy credit, He decided he wanted to and he did and looks like he did a good job. If it makes him happy good for him.

So he wants to build an Ark replica? What of it?

If I were an expert builder and had spare time I might undertake that too. Be a heckuva challenge.

My problem with it, is I don't see the point of it.

It's a waste of his time and money. He didn't do it out of spiritual reasons, he did because he had a nightmare, in the nightmare made him build a ark.

                  Great craftsmanship, but pointless build.

this is a crappy philosophy as i'm sure his view of being an nfl fan is pointless and costly

think about the nfl for a sec, how much revenue does that "game" generate?

how much does it cost fans?

total waste of time and money to some people

                      thanks for playing lol

Apparently you didn't watch the video. A little detail the writeup left out: It's for a tourist attraction. He just got the idea for it after having the dream.

He even stated that he didn't think it would survive if the Netherlands really flooded.

It pays to do a little more research before judging people.

even if your team wins it all

                            think about it

it's all pretty meaningless unless the person finds meaning in it

                            or joy, or something

one mans excitement means nothing to someone else, so for a person to say something else has no meaning, or is a waste of time and money, is very stupid

i'm not trying to bash the poster who said it, i'm just trying to broaden his outlook on life as we know it.

i would applaud as well, if a person built a 500 story building made of mcdonalds french fries, just because he obviously put part of himself into doing it

it's not a waste, if it's not a waste to the person who is doing it.....

                              that's all

i think sometimes, some of us lose perspective and need to remember there are other people in the world and that each of us individually is not the center of the universe, we're each individually the center of ourselves

this is one of the reasons that some parts of society have become desensitized to things that don't directly effect themselves......
