  • I need computer help

Clean installed my sisters VISTA HOME PREMIUM today.

Got it up and running, but can't find any networks to connect to her home wifi.

It says Windows cannot find any networks.

    Ideas?

try running CMD as administrator from the "start" menu. If you have not done this before, you can use the search option in the start menu to find CMD, or right click and properties then advanced ... .
Then right click it and select "Run as Administrator" or just run it if you are already an admin. Now type "nmconfig /install" and enter. This will re-bind the Network Monitor Driver to the adapters. Next time you run Network Monitor, the adapters should show up again.

Let me know if this did it! :thumb:

edit: also make sure the wireless "switch" is on. Should be on the machine somewhere. It is usually a mechanical switch ....

        Under device manager, and other devices;

There shows Ethernet contoller with a yellow ! next to it.

I can't update it though because we can't get on the WIFI network!

        Gahh this is frustrating.

Do you have a hardline? You might need drivers.

That's probably not it, but its the first thing I thought of.

Also, look around the laptop, is there a button or switch for the on/off wifi?

Give me the model number, i can look deeper there.

Look up her computer on the developers website (whether it be dell, vaio, etc)

download all the drivers for her computer. Via jump drive of course

Toshiba A205-S5880 Vista Home Premium is what she's running.

And her little button is turned on for the wifi.

These can be... well a pain.
Here is a Microsoft link that may help. The others are right, you may not have the drivers for the HW.

                Try this first ....

Do you have the recovery disk? It may have the drivers you need on it.

                        I'm on my own PC.

And I am not tech savvy. I don't know where to even find those drivers.

And we do have a fresh install of Vista Home Premium, and that's what we used today's. It wasn't ours, but our uncle's cd.

                            Sorry late edit.

Where would I even find those drivers?

All it says is Ethernet controller. I'd imagine that's whats messing it up.

Yeah just get the model number of the laptop/computer (Mine is vgn nw240f) and google the phrase "sony vaio drivers" or whatever computer you have....

it should take you to the official website (don't go to some stupid websites, only the officials).

                              Mine leads me here http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select...6,66,9,70,5,72

                              type in your model #

                              download all the necessary drivers

put them on a jump drive (google it, if you don't know)

take the jump drive to her computer

                              plug it in

install each on one by one.

                              restart

                              voila
