  • I Kinda Like Residential Weeds......(plural!)

People typically don't like weeds.......(note: do not take off the 's', or we may have a very different discussion....:nono. They are not pretty, they grow almost anywhere/anyhow, and they mess up your lovely garden, grass and pretty much any part of your property. For sure, they are not something you would give to another, as a gift........"what a lovely gesture, a dozen weeds, and it's only our 2nd date!!!!!"

But hold tight......as much as I've taken them on, I do have some respect for weeds. Just think of them:
    - they don't need any special care, or maintenance.....basically they're independent and free
    - they're tough......no water, no grooming......no nothing! They don't ask for anything really...
    - some of them are actually kind of "pretty"......kind of.......I mean, if people stopped giving them a bad rap, maybe we'd appreciate their unique look

So go out there, and spend a lot of time and a fair amount of money making your property look "good"......as some will define it.....but while you're at it, before you pull out another weed, at least give it a thumbs up:thumb: for not asking for anything, growing in spite of all its enemies, and for really only doing what we all try to do....survive.

Sure.......weeds do cause damage to crops, and I get that.......but the ones that show up around our property, are kind of interesting (to me anyway) as they basically make a statement..."hey, no one else seemed to want to live here, so I thought it was okay...."

If you had written this a couple of weeks ago, I would have negged you (if I could).

We weeded our front yard, still need to do the back.

I have plants/trees in large containers that have died, but the weeds in it are flourishing.

Now, I do think weeds are pretty, as long as they are in someone else's yard.

When our girls were younger (3 and 5), they picked "flowers" for me. They were so proud. They got the worse case of poison ivy ever. Bad enough to take them to the doctor.

They don't pick me "flowers" anymore.

When I mow my weeds ... they look better than my neighbors $1000 a year grass that he has 3 companies maintain for him!!

I pay NOTHING to maintain my weeds!!

            LOVE IT!!

Ugh. I bought my first house earlier this year, before the yard really came in.

I have grass, you can see it between the weeds and dandilions. I'm just too lazy to do anything about it, and I don't want my kid playing around a bunch of strong chemicals.

I accept the weeds. I can't say I like them though.

The only difference between a plant and a weed?...whether you want it to grow where it is growing.

When my youngest son was just a little guy he looked at an empty lot that was covered in dandelions and exclaimed to my wife "Look mommy a field of wishes!" I can't help but like dandelions now...at least in other people's yards!

I spent last night pulling out many of these wonders of nature and now my hand is stained. I get a better grip without gloves.

I have zero respect or tolerance for these unwanted guests and if it were up to me, I'd have them all on an endangered list. Go extinct you bothersome pests and never return! :hammer:

We humans create ways of destroying them in various forms yet these creatures still come back and refuse to die. It is like a war of sorts and we mere superior mortals are losing the fight. In fact, these weeds will out live us all so who is actually the superior one?

I commend you Dave for the attempt of finding common ground (pardon the pun) with these annoying and some time eyesore partners in life. We have to share the same existence here on earth but I want them to go find another planet.

I'm with Powder on this one. I don't like them, but I can't put any chemicals on my lawn because my yellow lab gets severe allergies. His allergies are bad enough from the stuff the neighbors put on their yards.

                      I tolerate them. For now.

Kids see things in a better light sometimes. And yes, a field full of dandelions has a very nice colour to it. If we weren't told otherwise, we'd probably think they look kinda cool....

Our yard is not looking so great with all the hot weather we've had which isn't a huge deal to me...some of my neighbors water constantly..what I hate is that grass that is called water grass or nut grass..I've heard it called both...not sure how we started getting it...it grows fast and doesn't burn up due to the heat.

Hey Joe.......well, to be honest, I wasn't expecting a huge following on this one.

But if you just imagine one single solitary weed, growing in the hot sun, with no water, no allies, no love ().......so resilient, so steadfast, and waiting for some big ole human to pluck them out of the ground.....

                            okay......not for everyone
