  • The Android Thread

Alright dudes I'm not sure if this thread or one like this has been created but I figured it could maybe be a good idea

Recently I picked up the new Galaxy S2

However, I feel as though I am not using this baby to it's full potential and so I now turn to you for help

I figure this could be a thread where us Android users can talk about ways to improve our Android experience

So here we go, tell me what apps/widgets you guys feel completely necessary and just can't wait to share or perhaps warn others of bad apps

    Thank you Charger$

-Crackle is great, lots of free movies.
-Listen and Stitcher are great if you like podcasts.
        - Tweetcaster is my favorite Twitter app

And oh yeah, there's a decent app "Denver Broncos News and Podcasts", but the developer is a bit...eccentric

I'll liekly be switching to Boost soon, the ZTE Warp looks like it could be a solid device. $200 with no contract and $55 a month unlimited everything is pretty enticing.

I got a SGS2 on release and I absolutely love it!
First time I've had a good phone really.

Here are my favourite / most used apps -

              Facebook
              Twitter
              Whatsapp
Cover Art Downloader (if you're putting music on the device)
              Beautiful Widgets
              Drag Racing
              3D Bowling
              Pixlr-o-matic
              Messenger
              Amazon Kindle
              GO Keyboard
              Advanced Task Killer
              ESPN Score Center
Flashlight (does what it says on the tin)

I recently DL'd Juice Defender but I can't tell if it's really doing anything to save me battery... My phone UI looks sweet though, I've heavily customised it! I don't get much battery life but that's probably the live wallpaper + me playing games. I've also got the Casemate Tough Case which is well worth the money if you're worried about protecting your phone. Last 'tech thread someone mentioned they heard it collects dust and lint like no tomorrow but I haven't experienced that at all (or I have very clean pockets).

I'm now a full 'Droid convert... came over from an old blackberry and had never bothered getting a decent phone before that... now I can't imagine not having something like this! Although I'm a bit jealous of not having something like siri to play with (yet).

The alpha stage of a program called iris. has been released on the Droid marketplace by an independent developer but it's VERY early in the design stage so is severely limited, not very responsive, and not very useful. It is promising though. Would be very cool if they got it working like siri does for the iPhone users. I would use it non-stop.

Yeah iris. is showing a lot of promise considering it was made by an independent developer

It will probably never reach the level of Siri but I do hope they continue to work on it.

This is also my first real good phone

I've never really been up to date in the phone department but now I feel like my phone is better than everyone's

I love my Galaxy S2 I just don't think I'm using it to it's full potential or even half of that

                      I must leaaaaarn

What did you do to your UI? I've been trying to find a good look for mine but I can't seem to find something that pleases me

You picked a good one for your first 'good' phone. Only hear great things about the SGS2. So much so that I will be picking up a Samsung phone later this month when it comes out on Verizon. Samsung Galaxy Nexus with the latest version of Android. Will be the first device available with it.

That's the one I'm looking forward to... Gotta see if I can get an early upgrade though since I'm not due until right around new years...

i might return my sgs2 for the nexus, if it looks good.

edit: not "looks good" in the way apple fans use the term

I've heard of people getting early upgrades from Verizon before. Might take some persistence but it's not unheard of. Especially since your contract is close to expiring, I'm sure they wouldn't mind guaranteeing themselves your business for the next two years.
