  • Mule Deer fans

I know some of you like these guy, so I thought I would introduce you to Bruce, the BOSS. This guy has to rule the herd in my neighborhood. He's about the biggest one I have seen yet in 15 years here.

He's relaxing outside in my backyard right now.

    Here's Bruce relaxing.

Bruce likes Black oil Sunflower seeds! As you can see, 11 points!

Bruce and one of his littler buddies. There has to be thirty of them out there, all around the house.

Bruce standing tall, surveying HIS domain, lol.

Let me just get my rifle... haha

actually took down a half decent 4x4 muley and a big doe this week. Gonna be a lot of deer steak in my stomach this year.

it's always cool seeing wildlife up close. Its crazy at my lake/cabin we have a lot of moose. It's not unusual to wake up and see a moose or two in your lawn. Though I wouldn't want to get to close haha

Let me ask you a question Remedy. You see he has nine points, right? He's also got those two little tiny ones, one near the base of each antler. Do those get counted also?

Thanks for sharing. Living the suburbs outside of NYC, we don't get to see many animals like that. Though recently, I've seen a lot of deer just walking doing the sidewalk and on people's lawns but those are very small compared to what you've shared. I feel sad every time I see those deer in my town especially around the higher traffic areas. I know one mistake could mean the end for one of them and possibly an injury or worse for the human in the car.

Looks like you have a decent amount of land but I could be wrong. Considering I live in a town filled with small property lots and houses built basically on top of each other, most properties in more rural areas would look huge to me.

Nice looking 6x5. He's very tall as opposed to wide.

Now I can't wait for dec, my next chance to go hunting :thumb:

I live on a 5 acre lot. Yeah, it's a lot of land, but there are a lot of 35 and 70 acre lots with a few miles of me. Some even bigger. I can't imagine taking care of 35 acres or more......

There is maybe 150 lots about this size in the area. The deer roam all over. There could be a hundred of them, but I rarely see more than 20 or 30 at a time.

They do get hit though. I see a carcass every year or two on the main road about 3 miles down the street. They get used to the cars I think. I come up on them all the time, and have to wait while they cross the street, totally unafraid of the car or truck.

It's kinds funny, they run from humans, but seem to have little fear of moving cars.

Not so funny when you hit one though. And I did just that about 7 or 8 years ago.

Coming home late one night at Christmas time. As you can guess, we have no lights out here. It gets pretty dark when there's no moon. Anyway, like an idiot, I slowed to look at one of the monster displays someone had put up, and hear and feel this BUMP.

Knowing there is no speed bump, I stopped and got out to check. Sure enough, there was a female in the road in front of me. I was horrified. As you can see, I feed them, and like them. I would never hurt one intentionally. Oh, I can take home the meat from my taxidermist buddy, but I could never shoot one.

I almost got to her, and she lept up and ran off into the dark. She seemed ok, but I will never know if she really was. I think about her almost every time I see them. And feel guilty all over again. Maybe that's why I now feed them. Trying to make amends....

That cost me over $600 in damage to my Ram truck. And I bought a brush bar just in case I do something else stupid in the future. So far, I have been lucky. I no longer look at Christmas lights.

Bruce is a big ole' pig!

I love to watch mulee's run. It just looks so strange to me, even after all these years, to see a deer hopping along like an antelope.

                              You mean the rack, right?

I agree. Most of them I see are spread out wider than this. I guessed those are about 20 inches tall.

I hope he decides to shed them on my lot. It would be cool to take them up to my taxidermist buddy, and drop them off when I pick up my fish he's doing. He makes a nice plaque with just the antlers and ball of leather between them.

One of those with a picture of him would look pretty cool.
