  • Threads With Many Pages Can Mislead

Sometimes when assessing whether or not to check out a particular thread, for me it comes down to how popular it appears......as in, pages of responses. Of course any brand spankin new thread needs a little time, so the time of the post is obviously a factor as well.

But I try not to be fooled by the number of pages. Here are a few common examples:

    1) When someone hits upon a very sensitive subject, and all H breaks out. One response would probably have sufficed for everything that follows.
    2) Threads that get bumped and bumped and bumped.......ok, I'm guilty as well.
    3) But here's the real "stinker" in my books. And I used to see more of these, because it seems we have less "two dude fight sagas" (I could be wrong). It goes like this:
    - First page of responses is good....fresh and assorted. BUT THEN poster A shows up, and lays down some logic. Which is fine, EXCEPT WHEN poster B gets wind of poster A's comments. And poster A and B like to battle. And it's almost like posters A and B have personal alerts whenever the other has posted something.
    - THEN......the thread becomes an A vs B debate. It could be about the colour of the sky, global warming vs climate change, or more likely......the definition of a franchise QB, or what is a true fan?????: And it soon looks like this > :hammer::hammer:
    - And it soons become 10 pages and counting!!!

    I stay away.....

(note: anything started by CanDB is another simple rule for many)

Or they are created by canadians and don't stay on track for more than 2 pages

The only time I ever click on a thread with a large number of pages if it's made by you, me, or one of Jets old long threads.

Any others I assume it's just people going back and forth over the same crap.

Thats not misleading. when you know there are canadians involved you know where this is going !

But seriously most of the time :
                  1) a sensitive subject thread is posted, the posting starts to go haywire and then a mod close it for cleaning

                  2) Then it must be a interesting subject (or a complete train derailment ! )

                  3) That's most often the case. Some one (usually a low post member let's call him z) starts with a subject (let's take the 2month = dissapointment or whatever the thread is named) and states something purely trollish. Then an other member (let's call him A)tried to knock some sense into the 1st poster and this is where and other (let's call him B) get's into the thread. So Z starts post something just start a fire. A come's in to kill the fire with sense. B come in and staes an opinion about what A said and the C come in and the fight beggins between B and C..

Ah the social dynamics of our forum ! always interesting
