  • I love Amazon.com!!!!!!!!

I ordered Smallville seasons 1-3 using the FREE SHIPPING OPTION and it was shipped Dec 07, 2004 @ 03:35:05 PM and arrived today DEC 09, 2004 @ 02:24 PM!!! :0 :0

When you consider that it was $114.99 with Free shipping and no tax and I got it in less then 2 days!! That's friggin awesome.
I've been using them for years and they just keep getting better and better.

I don't mean to sound like an adverstisement but I was impressed.

Yea, i got the sienfeld box set from there...i think it was 120-30 in stores, got it for 80,. and free shipping.
I've ordered ton of things from them with free shipping, and nothing has ever taken more than 2 or 3 days to get here, whether it was a 25 dollar item, or a 100 dollar item.
    Amazon does indeed rock!

Just to be a voice of dissent...

I avoid shopping at Amazon.com whenever possible. They are pretty much the Walmart of the internet.

      1) They have forced too many small businesses to shut down.
      2) They centralize too much retail business instead of sharing the wealth and their profit is so small that nobody is benifiting from their business, not even their investors.
      3) They take money away from local communities everywhere by not collecting sales tax (and by depriving other communites of property taxes thanks to all the small businesses that have shut down thanks to them).
      4) They do not provide any donations to your local schools or other non-profit organizations.
      5) They provide an extremely low ratio of jobs per annual revenue (especially compared to your local businesses) and the jobs they do provide are in very few communities.
      6) Like Walmart, they have already started using their purchasing power to pressure / blackmail many of their vendors into giving them deeper discounts than are given to their competitors. (Just one example is forcing book publishers to give maximum "co-op" money to Amazon.com or the publishers' books won't show up when customers do keyword searches.)

I try to shop locally whenever possible as this is the best way to help out the local economy. When shopping online, I try to shop anywhere but Amazon simply to spread the wealth. If not enough competition succeeds, Amazon will no longer be so nice with their prices and shipping policies. Do not think for a second that they actually want their customers to get the good deals. Rather, they live off of almost no profit (and quite often losses) because they have so much capital given to them by investors (who in turn have nothing to show for it except for overly inflated stocks) and they simply have to outlast their current major competitors.

Sorry for the little rant. Walmart, and now even moreso Amazon.com, are small business killers and are subsequently pet peeves.

          don't buy anything from "a1books."

after the PO screwed up and couldn't find my house (or so a1books said) they charged me a $3.50 restocking fee. ok, its not great customer service but i'm OK with that. but then the actually charged $5.17 and for some reason it took 2 weeks for me to explain that 5.17 was more than 3.50. it was only a couple bucks, but on principle i couldn't let it go. so anyway, it wasn't till i threatened filing a complaint w/ the better business bureau that they refunded the full amount.

keep the B.B.B. in mind when you are dealing w/ online sellers; i'd heard that they are very concerned with their BBB reputation and so will respond quickly if you threaten going to them. worked for me.

Heh, that's your choice. But the more people that feel that way, the more troubles our economy is going to have. Consolidating more of our national revenue into fewer pockets contributes to the imbalance of the haves versus the have-nots.

Not that I'm bragging, but I'm definatly one of the "haves".

Nothing wrong with being one of the "haves" but does that mean you can't want the rest of the economy to do well?

Wow, quite the compassionate heart you have there, Booher. Not all the "have-nots" in our country are that way because they are sitting on "their lazy asses." Many folk work their butts off but just scrape by. I personally know a few people that are working two or more jobs and make quite a bit less than I do with my single, modest business. It doesn't mean that I'm better than them in any fashion. My wife and I have been very fortunate.

Anyway, Walmart at least has the benefit of providing jobs in a ton of local markets and collecting sales tax for those communites. Amazon.com can't even say that much.

You are correct I am not very compassionate.......I'm a bit of an isolationist when it comes to this sort of thing....And it's also about being wise......see me and my wife have 2 children both in diapers and childcare was killing us so the only answer was different shifts.......I work 2nd she works third.....No childcare costs that way....We don't see each other as much as we would like but our quality of life has went through the roof. Not a knock on my parents but MY KIDS WILL NEVER GO WITHOUT LIKE I DID!
