Only 24 hours left to send my poem to Mars!!!
So there are only about 24 hours left to vote for my poem. For those of you who didn't see my previous threads I am in a NASA contest to send a haiku poem to Mars. The Top 3 poems will be put on the MAVEN orbiter and sent to the Red Planet. I am currently in 4th by about 500 votes. I need some help closing that gap a little bit.
I am expecting the current guy in 3rd to lose some votes. Several hundred at least. Therefore I need to close the gap from 500 to 300 and hope that's enough.
Here is the link to vote for my poem: http://lasp.colorado.edu/maven/goingtomars/entry/?27530
Thanks to all of you that have voted already and shared it with your family and friends on Facebook and other places!!!That's what she said.

Mars MAVEN contest winners announced...sort of.
So on the last day of voting the guy who runs the webpage for the campaign had told me that after all bad votes had been taken out I would be in 3rd place. They sent me an email and said "congrats" and so forth.
Today they announced that instead of the Top 3 poems going to Mars, any poem with two or more votes would also go to Mars. So about 1,000 poems will go to Mars. When you
click on the link the "Top 5" are not ranked in the correct order although you can't really derive that from the way they are put on the site.
A lot of my supporters are pretty upset about the decision by the MAVEN people to just
put everyone's haiku on there who got two votes. I'm trying not to "complain" but I feel like I got screwed pretty good. Never mind that I spent time away from my family and took a little time off work, went to Boise State and campaigned, went through my neighborhood and local grocery store and campaigned, but the guy who put no effort into
the contest now gets the same "prize" that I do?
The whole reason that people were excited about this contest is because the winners got something unique.
Maybe my being upset about this is all for naught and not worth the time it took me to write this post but I want to get the opinions of my fellow Bronco fans to see if I am out of line here.
My mom suggested that they get a small trophy plaque plate and engrave the three top poems on there and attach that to the orbiter to distinguish them. I thought it was a great
idea but then again I am biased. lol
Ultimately it is not important in the grand scheme of the universe but I have to have a day of venting and the hydrocodone may be clouding my judgment. lol

It seems as though you did a lot to earn it, and it's a shame that everyone gets the same prize. I've entered quite a few contests over the years, and never won a major one... just various online ones that were more about building my ego than winning a great prize. I can see that you took a lot of steps to put yourself out there, but personally I thought it should be more about the writing than campaigning. I prefer anonymous contests myself, where folks are voting on the writing rather than the amount friends or people one can get to vote, although most who enter don't stick with the guidelines of keeping it anonymous.
I read your Haiku, I liked it and voted for it. I also read a few of the others, and still thought yours was impressive. Think of the recognition you get for being in the top three....
just a side note... if you would have kept it to one thread rather than starting several new ones on the same subject I would have bumped it for you and respected it more.sigpicAdopted Bronco - 2018/19 - Derek Wolfe
