  • Gym Day!!!!!!!

    I stay in shape to some degree. Not active competitively, given some arthritis in the ankle, and because I'm not exactly a youngin. Might get back into paddling competitively again, based on how I feel. But I do work out a few times a week. Best part for me is the sauna and shower.

    Anyway, the University closes the gym down every year just before Christmas (something we have tried to have changed, but to no avail), and just reopened yesterday. So for me, today is GYM DAY, 2016! Almost 2 flippin weeks since my last appearance. Too long to wait!! All that wonderful Christmas food and drink!!!

    I don't think I've gained much weight, and have done some working out minus all the facilities/equipment (at home), but I am still anxious. It's time to get back, bust my butt, and for pete sake, stop eating things that I can't resist!!! It's like training a pet not to partake in certain things and then for 2 weeks looking the other way. Then you find out how trained they really are!!

    Actually I'm happy thinking about my return. Once I know I am able to handle the weights and the cardio that I am used to, I know I'll feel relief. Not to mention, the University "scenery" is pretty darn nice! And it's always cool talking to the good people I have met there over the years. Ahhh.....the social aspect always plays a key part in the overall landscape!

    And once I hit the sauna, life will be as I know it should be!!

    I so feel this post. I am out of town working and I'm gonna use the hotel gym every day no matter how busy I am. I feel better when I work out every day! Plus I love it!

      I know that feeling. Always look for hotels with decent gyms if at all possible. I've lucked out a number of times on trips, ending up with amazing gyms!!

      Anyway, my day back was great! And yes.....the sauna was fabulous, followed with a nice refreshing shower. Ha ha, sometimes when I get into lengthy discussions in the sauna, I get a little overheated, and not because of the discussion. That's why the shower is so dang wonderful. Not really funny, but a few times I have been too polite with guys who want to tell you a story in the sauna, and I have become a little lightheaded because of the heat/dryness. Not smart! Once I get near that state, I make a move for the door without looking rude. Hey....a story isn't that important!!

        So I went the gym on Saturday and did my usual routine. Except for one small thing, I accidentally had a weight land on my big toe......it just slid off the rack when I was reaching for another weight and I didn't even notice it. It hurt more than I expected, but I finished my routine. Went out for supper, and that night was noticing some bruising and swelling. On SB Sunday it seemed to be getting a bit better, but darker and fatter, plus I had some adrenaline on my side. Today I decided to go to the local sports clinic, and sure enough, fractured big toe!! Dang!! Good news it does not require surgery, but I am trying out a walking boot, and following Dr's orders. The usual stuff.

        Hmmmmm.....working out on a fracture isn't advisable.
