Fav/Least Fav Vehicle Features

I have driven a lot of cars in the last few years, and I have tried out a lot of new features. I love many of them...some not so much.

When I grew up, we did not even have a car, not til my brother was old enough to drive. Back then the features I liked were: basic car things (engine, wheels, steering, enclosure) along with heat and yes, maybe a radio!

Nowadays there are so many features that you can almost get lulled into believing the car will do the driving for you.....ha ha, that's coming. But our newest vehicle has a lot of bells and whistles, and I would not normally want all of them.

My newer feature favs are typically: remote start, heated seats, rear camera, and blind spot sensor. I love each one, and could explain....but I think most folks can relate, if they live in colder weather, have to back up in tight conditions, or realize how blind spots can sometimes be challenging, even when shoulder checking.

My least favs include:
1) Skid sensor - ha ha, I don't need something to tell me I am skidding when I am already feeling a skid!
2) Anti collusion - this is a good feature to a point. It can help slow you down before impact, which could be a huge benefit. But my feature is too sensitive, in that it will shut down the SUV if I get a little close to an object, when parking, And I am not talking real close. You can turn it off though.

I am not crazy about the lane detection feature, but I can see how it would be valuable in certain situations. It can be annoying when you purposely shift over a bit, given conditions of the road/traffic.

Overall, the feature technology is cool! Like I say, even some of the least fav features can be beneficial, possibly even life saving.

How bout you folks?

(note: of course I love all wheel drive, and many other goodies, but this is more about recent innovation, given my take. But be my guest, any feature is talk worthy!)

I hate how new cars treat me like i dont know how to drive. Always telling me what to do.

Constant dings to tell me this or that. I know how to drive thank you very much.

Anymore i feel like people dont know how to drive and that they rely on technology to drive for them.

Most of these new features i can do without. I cam parallel park on my own. I look much futher than the car right in front of me. I use my mirrors and i turn my head to look before making a lane change. I can control my braking much better than my abs does.

Can your threads are always a good read and are well thought out discussion starters!

My new favorite car features are satellite radio, heated seats, and remote start. It sucks how long it takes the air conditioning in our compass to get going, when I did use to drive it a lot I was using the remote start so it could start to cool down before I got in. I'd click it walking out the doors at work and it would be kicking in by the time I got to my car. Why I thought I needed heated seats in that same Jeep is beyond me, since I live in AZ. I used that feature the few cold mornings we did have though and liked it.

Can't say there are any new car features I don't like, have never had those features that help with blind spot or keeping you in your lane. Those are probably good features, but we stay pretty basic for the most part with the features we pick.

Yes, once you get used to all these new features and then drive a vehicle that has bare minimum, you actually have to think, and thinking is a pretty important part of driving. The newer SUV has too many bells and whistles. Constantly telling me to be careful, even when not even close to something. We have an older vehicle as well, with much fewer features, and it's like...….DRIVING!

I do stick by heated seats and a remote start, if you live in a cold climate, because nothing beats entering a vehicle that is warmed up, even though it's -40!!!

I think that moderation fits the vehicle world as well. Too many features that you hardly ever use, or wouldn't have paid for if you had a choice.

Yeah i use the heated seats for my back far more than just cold weather.
Sophia sounds like you could use cooled seats as well

One thing that baffles me is those who talk about mpg but have 18"+ size wheels that are super heavy. Hard to get around it though as thats how most new vehicles come

I agree with this. Those features just drive up the price of insurance.

My favorite features are 4 wheel drive, ground clearance, approach and departure angles, locking differentials and a reliable / bulletproof motor.

Bulletproof in that it can last 250k+ miles and not need a head gasket rebuilt every 80k etc.

I want a reliable vehicle thats easy to maintain and if it does need fixing then the parts dont cost half of what the car is worth.

I want to see more car builders with innovative thought process. Stuff like ariel. Give me some options. I grow tired of everything looking like a ford taurus or a cuv/suv. It seems like its less and less about the vehicle itself and more about how much junk you can option in to it

Can't think of any features I don't like per say, although I rarely have any use of the parking assists. It just ends up taking longer to park. I quite dig the HUD and NV.

Oh and I'm still getting used to driving without manual, which is a little weird for me as all my cars before this one have been manual. Can't say I hate it though.

I drive an 08 Grand Cherokee which isn't new by any means from a year standpoint, but it only has 107k miles on it.

It doesn't have any cool features like a backup camera, heated seats, or apple car play.

But it does go into 4low, and can get me through any snowstorm or backroad adventure that I go on.

So to answer the question, I enjoy my 4WD ability (along with heat and A/C ).

Vehicles are getting to be too techy IMO. I've talked to a few auto mechanics who I've known since owning my Jeep, and a lot of them hate these new cars because they are all computerized. They say - that many mechanics are bailing on the profession due to all of the tech stuff - they don't want to go back to school to learn how to upgrade a firmware.

Yeah, can you believe that? My sisters 18 Honda CRV was sort of sputtering a few months back. The fix? The dealer said the firmware needed to be upgraded!

heated seats are nice, but when you live in the desert, nothing is better then air condition seats.
