Regardless.....I am going to do my part, and keep my fingers crossed, because this next month will be very telling. Cases are going up in many areas. School and "lowering of guards", among other things, might be a concern, but we will see. October's results are going to give me a reasonably good handle on how things are going. I don't need the media to influence that. The data itself, observation, listening and reading others take on their situations, and various other influencers in the analysis process should approximate the situation reasonably well.

I hope the situation improves. I really do.
I appreciate people who take precautions.

It will be interesting to see what happens in Florida.

That could well be it. Too bad though if so, because you would think that would be common sense, common courtesy, common understanding.

Such as a person’s right to make a living and provide for their families?

I respect people’s fears and and unknowns, yes. I don’t walk around a crowded grocery store without a mask on.

I’ve also seen people in their cars by themselves wearing a mask. I’ve seen people walking their dog by themselves with a mask on.

That’s what I’m getting at. I don’t think there’s a lot of mutual understanding or respect. I believe there’s a huge disconnect, on both sides.

Let’s also discuss the hypocrisy of the medical community who touts every thing they say is science all the while asking their people on the front line to protect themselves with N95 particulate masks because of business contracts, not because they actually protect them from a virus.

I don’t intend to accuse you of hypocrisy Can, that’s not where I’m coming from. I think you try to see where others are coming from for the most part, at least where this topic is concerned.

It's cool. And thx. Not a perfect world, and even the medical community can be challenged. But overall I prefer to listen to them and the science folks than those who have no background.

Agreed, and for what it’s worth I spent 13 years in construction restoration managing jobs such as biohazards, asbestos abatement & mold remediation. I know what I’m talking about in regards to masks. I had to know what types of masks were available and what they did and didn’t do. I most likely know more about what they do and don’t do than most people in the medical field. An N95 is a particulate mask. It does not filter gases or viruses. You know know who makes truckloads of N-95’s? 3M. If you haven’t researched what they’ve done to the world’s water supply through manufacturing teflon, you should.

On a related note, did you know pharmaceutical companies have 3 times the lobbying power in DC as anyone else, including oil and gas? I don’t know about you, but that concerns me.

Good to know....all of it. And yes, the pharms are a daunting power horse.

You and I are probably on different sides of some fences, but I respect your feedback. And it's cool that folks can try to meet in the middle.

I'll admit, I get too passionate at times. That has worked in a positive way for me in life, but I need to harness it at times. There are 2 threads in particular that have brought out the most passion as I recall (other than The Broncos), because I truly believe they are about serious consequences. Hey, it's my take, which does not mean it's the only take, or even the right take. But we go on gut feeling in life, hopefully mixed in with logic, fact and open mindedness. As I say, passion is good to a point.

Be cool. And thanks for communicating as you do.

I think the term 'fake news' has been such a popular term in the last four years, that I honestly probably RARELY heard it being said before 2016...

I also think the term fake news is an easy "out" for some people, only because the provided information or factual data doesn't fit THEIR OWN views.....

I mean lets all remember (and I'm trying not to skirt the CoC here) - this Covid problem or pandemic and the initial lack of response (which has been proven multiple times) that has lead use to where we are now was touted as "fake news" and a certain party representations new "hoax."

I mean what are we at now, 205,000+ deaths in the USA? Sure - we can go back and forth about how Nancy Joe had severe dementia with COPD and heart failure, and she died at 93 years old (while being Covid +), so it "didn't really count" as a Covid death...

But for a leader of a nation to proclaim "fake news" left and right, or make up information about how the pandemic will just go away, or make a health crisis a political platform, stray away from what professional scientists are researching and claiming - is a slap in the face to anyone living here in the states, and to anyone who has been affected by Covid - whether personally or professionally.
I’m not trying to use the term fake news... I mean in general news isn’t news anymore.. it get slanted and editorialized to the point the facts are twisted..

I feel journalists have an opinion, and seek out things that support their views rather than just report what’s going on...and letting the reader/viewer make their own conclusions..

I can say this from a point of view that in my career...we give media information...and I can go home and watch the news and not recognize what was given to them., this was 20 ish years ago... and it seems only worse since then... so I quit watching news and believe very little of it..

Hope that clarifys my view a little more..

                    • In what I would describe as a good news story, is the handling of sports in these difficult times. Congratz to Tampa Bay for winning their 2nd Stanley Cup. And congratz to The NHL for their exceptional effort and know how to complete their season, and to do it with class. Watching these players/coaches/staff celebrate tonight was special. it was raw, It was meaningful. And it was thanks to some fantastic hockey, pretty much minus any fans in the stands. It's different when there are few sounds other than the players' voices, and in this case, with loads of excitement. It seemed more like when we were young and played for the game, with few folks, if any, watching. Well, at least not in sight.

Thanks for the entertainment as well.

And good on all the sports that our moving ahead and being successful at it, with so much working against them. The NBA finals are coming, and the MLB playoffs. The NFL is doing fine so far. Other sports as well. I am impressed. This is not an easy feat. No telling how much effort, sleepless nights, planning and more planning, and commitment involved.

                      Congratz to the sports world!!

We aren't asked to wear them to the end goal of fulfilling business contracts, no.

                        • First of all - this isn't directed to any specific member in this thread. This is just my morning two cents:

It's very difficult to try and respect the CoC here and I do believe we all try to maintain that respect.

With that said, this virus has great political influence. Whether it's about the science of the virus and those specific interventions, or if it's related to the groundbreaking news or information - it is unfortunately all related to a political platform - which sucks, because I think many of us would like to explain more details about our specific stances without violating the CoC...

I know news isn't perfect, but it is far from "fake." I HATE hearing the term "fake news". I hear it from family members, some friends, the public, and our commander in chief. Yes, not all news is perfect - but there is true journalism and reporting in the US.

Now I don't mean to to skirt the CoC but just reposting a quote from the current commander in chief yesterday: “Tremendous progress is being made, and I say it all of the time, but I will say it again: We are rounding the corner. Vaccines are coming. We are rounding the corner regardless."

Yet, the vice commander in chief also yesterday said: “The American people should anticipate that cases will rise in the days ahead."

Now, c'mon - without getting political but just going off of these quotes - how can anyone in America feel reassured by any of these polar opposite statements?? We have been averaging over 40,000 NEW covid infections a day, we're at 205,000+ deaths in the states..... how are we "rounding the corner"?

If our LEADERS of this "great" nation can't even get on the same page with a simple early week news updated, no wonder they feel so violated by the news agencies who call them out on things like this - which then gets labeled as fake news.

So when I read or watch the news and I see stats and factual data (such as the new infections per day, the spike in my state of WI, and the overall deaths in the US), I'm going to trust the data and the science. I don't know how any of that is considered "fake".

But hey - don't watch the news, I don't care. But don't discredit it just because you don't like or "believe" what is being said.

Facts are usually supported by data. Data proves truth. Truth reveals reality. All three are huge reality checks for people who are either clueless, or don't give a crap....

I do not see that as skirting the COCs. A quote by the President, VP, Majority Leader, Speaker, et al, in context of the topic of covid (not the politics of it but related to treatment, effects, etc.) is absolutely fine.
