Unfortunately I will lose some more hearing as the result of the next operation. I'll be seeing the Consultant in a month or so to discuss the full implications. I already have severe/profound hearing loss in the other ear, but just mild in this one, at present.
I'm going to use the time leading up to the surgery to learn lip reading.
I found this fabulous article this evening:
        https://www.lipreading.org/winning-m...r-hearing-loss
One more sleep until the big op!
Best case scenario they get rid of all the cholesteatoma and I end up with moderate hearing loss.
Worst - complete deafness and facial nerve damage!
I'll happily settle for the former scenario.
        Feeling surprisingly calm today.
That has not always been the case these past few weeks.
Getting to watch the Broncos for the first time this season on TV on MNF is keeping me going

        • Good luck! Sending positive vibes and well wishes and keeping you in my thoughts!

Lip reading, signing and sign language are all things i want to learn and know

As the scottish band we were promised jetpacks would say "stay calm, keep warm"

That's a very wide margin and impressive that you are calm - good for you!

I'll side with you and hope and pray for the former as well.

                        • Can we please have MNF today! Still high on morphine lol at 12.55a.m and it would be the perfect night to be able to stay awake.

Considering the cholesteatoma was larger and surgery lengthier all has gone as well as can be expected. It will be several weeks, months even before we know the full extent of hearing loss. In the meantime I count myself blessed that I can still smile and close both eyes to go to sleep courtesy of the incredible skills of Mr Snow in avoiding facial nerve damage. Grateful to have caught the cholesteatoma just in time before it zapped complete hearing and spread to inner ear!

Yes there are some nasty things to put up with too and as days pass and I come back down to earth I may struggle but the overwhelming emotion right now is relief and gratitude.

                          Thanks for all your encouragement.
