Stuart Scott was injured on April 3, 2002, at the New York Jets training camp while reporting for ESPN when a machine that throws footballs to receivers for practice hit him in the left eye with a football, requiring Scott to undergo surgery of the cornea [2].

                  Yes. That is for real.

And actually, the 'crazy eye' is a glass eye. The cornea surgeries failed, unfortunately.

Regardless of your feelings toward Scott (I know some hate his personality), I think ESPN did the right thing by keeping him on, even thought TV is a visual medium. There are places who would 'suggest' that he maybe should do off air work.

I agree that they did teh right thing. He's a sports commentator and while I agree that appearance means something, esp. on t.v., it shouldn't mean everything.

Yeah, that was good of ESPN and awfully lucky for Scott.

If you call getting your eye shot out by a 60 MPH football lucky.

I like his personality and I think that speaks volumes for his commentating. I've seen a lot of weird looking sports commentators but when it all comes down to it, you just want the facts, you don't care who's delivering them or what they look like.

I personally like Stuart Scott. I like the energy and enthusiasm. but the thing i like most about him is the ability to make fun of his eye (see WAbroncos avatar )
