Im an avid reader, but I prefer fiction. If you like horror books, steven king and dean koontz are good.
If you like straight fantasy, RA salvatore and basically anything in forgotten realms is good.
if you lik surreal fiction, Simon R green books make for a god read.
..but thats just me.
If you take what I have to say seriously, then I'm embarrassed for you.

I read horror mostly and I recommend H.P. Lovecraft (the source of all inspiration to modern science-fiction and horror stories, movies, and games); Stephen King; and Clive Barker (his stuff gets old as it is basically blood and gore, but you can find the occasional gem).

If you like smart-aleck, literate detectives, I highly recommend the Spenser series by Robert B. Parker. Also, I like most of John Grisham and Michael Crighton (sp.) and the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings series.
BTW, my cheapness is forcing me to wait for the Da Vinci Code to come out in paperback - anyone have any idea when that may be?

I'm a bit of a history fan, particularly 476 to around 1000 AD (dark ages).
I've also read Ghost Wars, The Secret History of the CIA, Afganistan.... not a bad read. I'm a speed reader so it doesn't take me long to go through one.

Originally posted by JewelsI like Steven King, but I've noticed that over the years his passion has seemed to dwindle (just my opinion). He's still my favorite. I've read some Anne Rice stuff (not bad). Dean Koontz has held my attention for awhile.

I can finish a 700 pagebook in 3 hours if I get into it. i know what you mean.
King has long some of his luster, but I was refering to the classics. It, cujo, the stand, etc.
for kids who are mature enough to read king, but dont want to jump in with both feet, I recommend reading eyes of the dragon first. the gunslinger series was good also.
go speedreaders!

Originally posted by Calif. BroncoGood idea except I know from experience that libraries tend to have a run on books around the time a movie based on the book comes out and I am not the type to go to the library every day to check.
I looked at Barnes and Noble and Borders and it was still full price, but I guess I'll keep trying. I though for sure the paperback would come out now that the movie is so close.HEAR ME ROAR!

There's a chain called "Half Price Books" in Cincinnati, where you can get hardcover books for a fraction of the original price. It's a great store, and if they have one in your area, you'll be sure to find a copy. Otherwise, Amazon always has deals on books.
WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!
.....dude, whodey, you can read?
