there was a small earthquake when i was in atlanta a while back. i woke up in the middle of the night and heard a rumbling (i think, i was pretty groggy, but i woke up anyways and thought something was up) so i walked to the window and looked for a mushroom cloud in the direction of downtown atlanta. next morning i heard it was a earthquake.
there was also one in SC one time. i woke up b/c i heard the door vibrating.

A mushroom cloud! Okay, that beats my wacky imagination thinking it was a train. but yeah, the small ones do seem like that, like an explosion. Right after 9/11, i think a week or so after, we had a small one in Silver Lake, the part of LA that i live in. When you're right on top of the epicenter it's strong and sudden, b/c the waves aren't spread out. Anyhow, i immediately thought we'd been bombed, that they'd gotten Dodger Stadium (i live across the hill from it). That was pretty scary - the timing.

We have Tornadoes in Missouri. Although we don't have as many as Kansas!

Really? God, i would think that Kansas would be crawling with them! You know, the biggest earthquakes ever in the US (besides Alaska) were in Missouri. Made the Mississippi river flow backwards. I think it was a 7.9 or something.

Don't apologise, I have lived in CA off and on..ya know what??? I have experienced more Earthquakes here in VT than I did in CA..go figure huh?

When I lived in Colorado came toooo close to a tornado...or is it the other way around..anyways I hate thunderstorms they can lead to tornadoes
Glad we have the Weather Channel these days.

Unfortunately the Weather Channel can't predict Earthquakes though.

Were you in Denver when those 5 touched down? Is that what you're referring to? I was there for that... god, what was it... in the 80's? Anyhow, that was scary. Nothing freaks me out like a tornado siren.

That's funny that you get more quakes in VT! The irony, right?

My closest was early 1970's in Colorado Springs, it was like 2 blocks away and all I could see was a big black dust whirl,(just like tv shows) but you could also hear it.......run!LOL

Course many times I would see the garden variety type while driving through the wide open spaces on the plains....not much threat to anyone unless you are a gopher..still..... powerful looking, and have potentia!l I have learned to watch clouds, especialy in the summer, we get some pretty nasty stuff here even in the northeast. Is it safe in Hawaii?LOL

                        Hawaii has volcanoes...
