When I was a kid Memorial Day was the Indy 500, then to the cemetary to place flowers on family. A good BBQ. Just having fun with the family.

Now, I take my kids to the cemetary and share old stories of their great-great grandparents who died when they were young. Of my great aunt who also died when they were young. We can sit for hours and go over these stories and at the end their eyes are still wide open asking more and more. They love the stories of the "old times". This year I think I am going to add some stories about the soldiers in Iraq, they are young so they don't fully grasp a lot of the reasons they are over in Iraq.

Other than that, some sun and fun! Good food. Family. Can't ask for more!
Ready for the friggen season already!

      That's awesome, GEM.... Seriously.

I'll never forget the time (wasn't memorial day) that my Dad took me to introduce us to his brother's friend who died in Vietnam. He cried.... my Dad DOESN't cry.

I'm just going to relax this weekend.
      Thanks, Reid!

Have a blessed Memorial Day everyone.

Give a few thanks to those who served and fought for our country.
I also take a moment to remember my love ones even if they weren't in the military.

                  I will be working.

Remembering my brothers and sisters who sacrificed themselves for me.

Remembering our fallen Denver Firefighter who was laid to rest yesterday.

Memorial Day is a day where I will forever give thanks for the men and women that served before me, and served alongside me.

I will forever remember the Marines I had the honor of serving with that didn't make it home.

This Memorial Day I will take some special time, go through some pictures of old friends, and then browse militarycity.com and look through the pages of honor.

My weekend went from uneventful to busy as heck in about a 15 minute span. My girlfriend's ex-husband was supposed to take their son all weekend so we were just gonna kind of relax with my son. At the 11th hour though, her son's father cancelled on him (the guy is a real A-hole - he does this all the time) and he's really upset. So, to try and take his mind off it we planned an event for the four of us for everyday.

Tonight - went to Old Town Pasadena, had dinner and walked around.
Tomorrow - going to an Orange Show (basically it's a fair)
                      Sunday - the beach
Monday - a movie (probably RV or the Benchwarmers)

So I won't be relaxing but I will be helping to cheer up a very disapointed 10-year-old!

I will be watch the Indy 500.

As far as it what it means to me...? First on the list is freedom. Also it is a very somber day of reflection. Thinking about the men in women "gave the last mesaure of devotion", to better our lives. The ones who never come home, never got a Parade, never to see there loved ones again.

To all who served and died for the country that I love, thanks , and I love each and every one of you

Well, sorry to bring some VERY serious chat to this forum.... BUT...

EVERY one that came home like that got a ceremony.... perhaps not a parade but a ceremony....

Every military veteran, especially those killed in combat, get a ceremony... It generally (for Marines anyhow) consists of escort from the plane, casket guard (24 hours until the funeral, wake, casket bearers (no idea why we don't call them pall bearers), 3 Volleys of fire (commonly known as 21 gun salute), Taps, and a flag folding.

I have folded many a flag, and believe me, they will fold a flag over my casket whether i'm 100 or 30.

out here we dont have cemetarys like evrywhere else...we have em but they are all out along the hills, like family graveyards...but none of the manicured lawns and such, just a fenced piece of land out in the hills...so memorial day is a big deal to us indians, since we not only decorate graves but have to clean them, of weeds, repair crosses , haul fresh red dirt to cover them before we decorate, since they will stay decorated till next year and so on. tommorro we are going out to clean my father in laws, my sister, grandfather who was killed in the ww11, my sons and other family members before decorating them.

we , my family do not take this holiday as a reason to go party somewhere...but one of respect to honor not only the fallen warriors, but our relatives

Davii, I think you missed point of my post I was very Specifc to say PARADE not a CEREMONY! Also not all of them "came home" the men laid to rest at the Cemetary at Normady where in my mind when i was typing that, also all the sailors and Marines lost at sea never come home. As fellow "Teufelshund" I though that would be abountly clear to you but appearlty not, check your FACTS before posting and think a little bit about it first.
