  • Brisbane, Australia ~ RIVER FIRE!

These are some pics taken by someone (I don't know who) of teh 2006 Brisbane River Fire.

River fire is a festival once a year that is part of "River Fest" which is about celebrating the Brisbane River. River Fire kicks off the week long Festival, and this year they shot fireworks off of 8 sky scrapers, 7 barges in the river itself, and 3 bridges.

The following puics show some of that, along with two firey streaks through the sky, which are F-111 fighter jets from the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force). They do what is called a "dump and burn" which is basically "dumping" a great percentage of their fuel and "burning" it up, as it is left behind.

    Enjoy!

Never had heard of this before and it's really beautiful! Looks like a main event for those mates! I had never heard of fighter jets being able to "burn" their fuel behind them either...always learning something...and that was beautiful.

I have always wanted to travel to Austrailia, very much so.

    Thanks.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

      Yeah it's good...

That event is pretty spectacular, needless to say the locals are all about the "dump and burn".

They don't need much reason to shoot off fireworks around here, but this is the big one.

Oh yeah, and another little stat about this year's event...

They shot off 3,000 kilos of fireworks, equal to 6,600 pounds!!!

I was working so I didn't get to see much of it, but I did get to see the fighter jet at the close, they do a flyover at the start and again at the end.

Would it be a safe guess then to say your location on your profile is longitude and latitude (Austrailia)? I know I probably sound like an :idiot: , but if you are... that is very cool to have a gent from below the equator on this board.

6,600 pounds ---- that deserves an applause. (sorry, couldn't help myself)

In Nebraska, when we are lucky enough to get our little mitts on some 4-6-inchers....we think we are "woo hoo" hot shots! Of course they are illegal here in Nebraska, which makes them even more fun to watch (but don't tell Johnny Law Man you heard that from me).

If it's this spectacular in pictures, it must be breath-taking to be in the midst of it!

Yeah it's a pretty awesome event.

And yeah that's the lat/lon of Brisbane, Australia, I was born in Iowa, and grew up in Colorado, lived in Arkansas for 5 years and came here 3 years ago, I am pretty high on this town, it's a good, clean one, with tons of stuff to do within about an hour's drive. Rain forests, mountains, beaches (Gold and Sunshine Coasts).

And there are a few "real" Aussies around this place, Anton (probably the most famous) is one from Sydney, and last week there were a few popping their heads in to find out about watching NFL games. :thumb:
