  • Kids.....

They're becoming more and more idiotic as they age.....

    ...take a gun to school....

....have it fall out of your pants....

...and shoot yourself in the thigh and hand.

Sophomore at a highschool here in Omaha.....

...I guess they don't teach the basics of Weaponry 101 until year the junior year.

Oh, the kid's alright....he ran out of the classroom, and then either hitched a ride, or RAN to a neighboring hospital. The school went into lockdown for a couple of hours......and the student was last seen climbing into a cruiser.....
(Omaha, NE) -- Police say a student at Northwest High was shot in the finger and leg when a gun in his pocket accidentally went off during class this morning. The 10th-grader was the only student struck by the bullet in the family consumer science classroom. He drove himself to Immanuel Medical Center. The school was locked down until dismissal at 2:40 so police could investigate.
    Then, you have these idiots......

(Bellevue, NE) -- Three teenagers are in custody and facing charges for allegedly threatening to set off a bomb at Bellevue East High. Authorities say the 15, 16 and 17-year-olds were working on a plan to detonate plastic explosives during an assembly at the school. Police Chief John Stacey says investigators have not found any evidence that the teens had the explosives or any weapons necessary to carry out an attack.
These three must've thought Explosives 501, for seniors only, wasn't a necessary class.

Wow! I wondered what would have happened, had the Huskers actually WON their game on saturday!!!!!

    Just

    Freakin'

    Brilliant!

I think the systematic destruction of the American family has caused these bad apples to crop up more and more.

Raising childeren is difficult and single parents of this generation are too selfish to give their children the attention to raise them properly.

Lazy single parenting is what's causing these kids to make stupid decisions.

So you're saying all four of these kids are in single-parent homes?

Maybe it's too much TV! PSP's! Nintendo's! High Throttle energy drinks!

I think they moved here from Iowa...that's what I think!

I'm starting to wonder if the coddling and protecting these kids as much as possible is sending some kids to high scholl ill-prepared for it.

They don't know what it's like to be picked on. They've alway's been babied, spoiled and coddled. And when they are their most awkward they are sent into a battlefield. (That! And these kids are idiots)

Everything we do is to protect them from something. For example........
Some little league sports don't even keep score b/c they don't want hurt feelings.

Anyway, I'm not saying that's what is happening everywhere.

It's just something I think about when I hear about stuff like this.

I think its lack of positive role models. Which comes also into play with nobody giving positive reinforcement on good behavior (such as extra curricular activities) and scolding for negative behavior (setting off bombs, getting in fights, drugs, etc).

Parents are usually the ones it starts with since they (usually) have the most contact with their child. They need to become somwhat involved in a child's life and shouldn't be afraid of being "the bad guy" when it comes to dicipline.

Teachers and coaches can help too. Technically it isn't their job, nor is it as easy as it would be for the parents, but getting to know students and talking them through problems can help.

Then there is the video game/tv factor. They do have a slight influence I think, but studies have found that with parental control (not like the v-chip, but again positive reinforcement for good behavior, opposite for bad) the effects of games and TV are pretty much completely negated.

Kids also need to start reporting this crap too! Its pretty friggin obvious that when a kid jokes around about shooting a school, you shouldn't laugh just because its your friend! My friggin brother and his friends used to joke that they could see my brother shooting up the school. I told them if they ever joked about it again I would kick all their asses. They shut up. Now thats probably not the best way to handle it.....but kids need to keep eyes on their friends. If they are acting wierd, talk to them. Get them help. My friend had to do it for her roomie's klepto and anorexic behaviors. Sure, they may not like you for a bit, but its for their own good! Not sure how that girl turned out though.

                Stupid kids.

No, I don't know if they came from single parent homes or not. It wouldn't suprise me though.

Ultimatly I'm saying that they may have had some bad parenting. In America, bad parenting is becoming more common because this generation of parents grew up being more individual and selfish. Being more individual and selfish has made single parenting more prevelant. TV's, PSP's, Nintendo's, and energy drinks are not a problem if the kids are raised properly.

I don't think he meant to bash single parents on thw whole, just a part of them.

Of course, there are just as many still togother parents who do the exact same things.

So I don't think he was trying to bash single parents, he just used a bad example?

I dunno, I'm not Benny though, so I don't know his thinking nor his reasoning.

I get that, but it's not like Benny to be so slack.

Heck, I'm from a single parent family, and I am way more sorted than friends from 2-parent familys.

And, my parents are actually friends! As are my folks, and the steps!

Yea, I grew up in a single family home too for quite a few years before my dad remarried.

I turned out semi-normal! But thats just my wacky personality.

                              Here's how it is.

Yes, SOME troubled kids are from single-parent familys. SOME troubled kids are from 'regular' familys.

The fact is, we can't just wave stereo-types around for such issues. (Dan Quayle?)

People need to take responsibility for their actions, and parents need to realise that until their kids are of legal age, this means that THEY are responsible for the actions of their children.

IT IS NOT THE TEACHERS JOB TO TEACH YOUR KIDS GOOD VALUES!!!!

If you want to blame TV and video games, fine, do something about it. Monitor what they watch, get rid of the console.

If you want to blame their friends, fine, just help them to make new, better friends.

Get your kids involved in sports, religion, charity, anything! But try some actual parenting!
