Interesting article AZ and nice to see you post a thread again!

The snakes must be fairly reliable in order for China (huge technology capabilities) to rely on them. Plus, they have to be more reliable than the ESP readings we hear about from time to time. Snakes for Shakes!!!!

If the snakes can be useful, then use them to help predict earthquakes. Just may help save lives.

The snake is an awesome creature, but of course we use sharks for earthquake prediction in Wales.

They use all types of dogs to train for Epilepsy. Where the dog will lay across the legs (or other ways to sign to the person) of his epileptic owner PRIOR to the seizure occurring, so the they can get into a safe position or call for help. I watched a program on that and it's literally 'amazing' HOW the dog could know BEFOREHAND that a seizure is to take place. How can you not respect animals when they have those capabilities?

Regarding the Tsunami, that's one of the first items of note by all the rescuers....there were no animal bodies mixed in with the people who died. Later, to discover, the animals traveled miles inward and to high ground. What I'm surprised about in this particular story.....either people realized the animals were leaving (the natives vs tourists) and did not follow them or no one noticed the animals were leaving.

And your point about people getting so wrapped up into their technology today, don't want to dismiss their bonds and communication with nature....I believe in that completely. Don't get too far away from quietly observing what is going on around you and dismiss it as though 'nothing' is going on. There's plenty.

I'm not sure if this would be on those same lines, but I'll let you decide....
My father, in his mid-70's, would go fishing in the early morning hours. He'd take his snacks, fishing equipment, a bucket to sit on, and a thermos of coffee. He used to be a hunter years ago for deer, fowl, etc. Anyhow....he'd have this lake all to himself and the water would mirror with stillness and it was very quiet and peaceful. One day, he was sitting eating a breakfast roll and drinking his coffee, watching his poles for action, and in his perripheral vision sees a deer walking towards him. It is hunting season. The deer walks to my dad and my dad's not moving at all, sniffs his ear, walks away. Dad's in awe! Goes back the next morning, the deer returns, licks his arm, sniffs his ear/head, and stays just a little longer. Dad offers the deer part of his breakfast, the deer accepts and gently leaves. My dad is obviously making a deep bond with this deer, and it has touched him deeply to making his eyes water when telling the story. Each time my dad returns to the lake, the deer 'finds' my dad, no matter where my dad is on the lake. With each visit, the deer stays longer, even lets my dad pet him. They have bonded, as friends, no doubt about it. One day, he even thinks the deer was warning him, by his nervous behavior, of hunters being too close to the lake area by nudging my dad's arms and licking my dad's face. When my dad returned to the lake again, the deer did not return. My dad felt the loss. Silly little thing to some, but that deer changed my dad's attitude and gave my dad something very heartfelt and irreplaceable. My dad felt honored. He also felt a lot of guilt for bonding with the deer as a human, because in retrospect, maybe the deer was shot due to trusting HIM. I think ALL THINGS happen for a reason, sometimes we just don't understand it or see the reason. Deer are usually very skittish, and this deer selected MY DAD only. If another person appeared on the lake, the deer was quick to exit back into the woods.

It has always been known animals can sense things, (saw this on Animal Planet)like dogs and cats are known to sense an oncoming heart attack, they will act irrationally and same for cancer supposedly they will lay their head where it is and be real clingy, and I wouldn't be surprised if this snake theory is true. I wonder is it all snakes or certain kinds.
