    Oil Change instructions for Women:

    1) Pull up to Jiffy Lube when the mileage reaches 3000 miles since the last oil change.
    2) Drink a cup of coffee
    3) 15 minutes later, write a check and leave with a properly maintained vehicle.

    Money spent:
    Oil Change: $20.00
    Coffee: $ 1.00
    Total: $21.00

    Oil Change instructions for Men:

    1) Wait until Saturday, drive to auto parts store and buy a case of oil, filter, kitty litter, hand cleaner and a scented tree, write a check for $50.00.
    2) Stop by 7/11 and buy a case of beer, write a check for $20, drive home.
    3) Open a beer and drink it.
    4) Jack car up. Spend 30 minutes looking for jack stands.
    5) Find jack stands under kid's pedal car.
    6) In frustration, open another beer and drink it.
    7) Place drain pan under engine.
    8) Look for 9/16 box end wrench.
    9) Give up and use crescent wrench.
    10) Unscrew drain plug.
    11) Drop drain plug in pan of hot oil: splash hot oil on you in process. Cuss.
    12) Crawl out from under car to wipe hot oil off of face and arms. Throw kitty litter on spilled oil.
    13) Have another beer while watching oil drain.
    14) Spend 30 minutes looking for oil filter wrench.
    15) Give up; crawl under car and hammer a screwdriver through oil filter and twist off.
    16) Crawl out from under car with dripping oil filter splashing oil everywhere from holes. Cleverly hide old oil filter among trash in trash can to avoid environmental penalties. Drink a beer.

    24) Crawl under car getting kitty litter into eyes. Wipe eyes with oily rag used to clean drain plug. Slip with stupid crescent wrench tightening drain plug and bang knuckles on frame removing any excess skin between knuckles and frame.
    25) Begin cussing fit.
    26) Throw stupid crescent wrench.
    27) Cuss for additional 5 minutes because wrench hit bowling trophy.

    Great post.

Sounds exactly like me except leave out the beer, subsitute coffee and skip the DUI stuff. I did finally take my wifes advise and use Jiffy Lube, the problem with that is I find I rarely even look under the hood of any of our vehicles now.

      Denver....
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Hey if Jiffy lube used synthetic oil, I'd take my car there all the time.....but....

Plus, it's pretty easy changing the oil in a 4-Runner...

That was pretty funny Denver. I'm the guy who's always looking for a tool I don't have....

Hmm, I've never seen them advertise it. I believe you though. I spent $50 on 6 qts
and a filter on my last oil change. Of course that lasted close to a year...

They ask me everytime I have my oil changed there if I want synthetic so I assume they have it. I always stand there and watch them change the oil or whatever else they do.

I had them change the antifreeze once and caught them putting the wrong stuff in it, lucky for me, before they started.

I change my own oil...because I lived on the farm and it was a sin to have someone else do it, but I can relate to the beer thing after watching my dad change oil in all of our equipment ect...

The farmers all over would have equipment day...and they would each buy a 12 pack of beer and they would go from farm to farm and help each other service the machinery!!! Let's just say that they would only get one or two things done...

Maybe I should have put this in the random thread!?!

Rock on sister...I used to be able to change a tire faster than any of the guys around...I'm out of practice, but I'm sure I could still get it done!!!

As far as not taking them home...I still would have tested their skills!!!

                          Two things......

In regards to flat tires I keep a 24 volt cordless impact in the vehicle, sorta beats the hell out of doing them by hand.

Since we are discussing oil changes........for those of you that have older vehicles (using regular lifters instead of rollers) it is important for you to use shell rotella oil, WHY !!! Well, the main reason is that rotella still has zinc in it and other oils don't, this is important because zinc keeps your cam and lifters from wearing out.

Okay....appreciate the advice. Now, regarding "older cars"....can you
give us an idea of how old?

My dad has to use Rotella on all his pump trucks - so could the same be said for all large equipment regardless of age or do you check mfr. specs?
