It has come to my attention that a certain feline of mine feels discriminated against. Some would describe her as a black cat, which is true. She has shared with me her hurt feelings though, at the fact of this discrimination she deals with day to day. Black cats are mostly the target of a superstition concerning bad luck, concerning beliefs that if a black cat crosses a person’s path it would be their unlucky day.
My dark feline crosses my path on a day to day basis, and from this first hand experience I know this black cat prejudice superstition to be untrue. Even on a day such as today, renowned for bad luck (Friday the 13th) I have had little of this luck, even after she ‘crossed my path’. In fact it has been a glorious day.
The point of this letter, though, is to reveal to you the insensitivity shown towards all black cats alike. You wouldn’t feel anything towards a white or grey cat, why should black cats be treated differently? They deserve the freedom to cross people’s paths without feeling unwanted. Who are we to claim this so called path as our own in the first place? In fact, in my own devious feline’s mind, it isn’t the cat crossing your path, you are merely attempting (and failing) to interrupt this cat’s path, as a cat always knows exactly where it is going.
Be kind to these dark little felines, as even if crossing ‘your’ path doesn’t bring bad luck to you, when the black kitty rebellion comes, the discriminatory humans will be the first to go. Honestly, this is just a warning, heed it if you desire, but beware these cats. They have sharp teeth.
