Sad Blue angels accident

No bueno. I never like hearing about downed pilots, especially our pilots.

In June 2005, we had a U-2 land at the base I was deployed to. I recovered the aircraft with a couple of other guys in my shop. We all sat with the Major that was piloting the aircraft for about an hour after he was done debriefing and just shot the poop. He was a very nice guy. The next day he took off and his plane crashed (http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...-centcom01.htm). So, I can definitely somewhat relate to the family and friends of this downed Blue Angels pilot.

hard, fast and doing something i truly love!!!

i feel for his family...



but the show must go on...

accidents happen...

he had a dangerous job...

and cheating death for a job always has a chance of catching you...

knowing a former blue angel pilot it hits me pretty bad. it is a lot of hard training, this pilot was one of the very best pilots in the navy and his loss will be felt thru-out the air wings of the navy.

I've seen them plenty of times and I feel for his family. They are the best at what they do and Smith I would bet that was that pilot's passion. My prayers will be with the his family and the Blue Angel family as well.

They are so fascinating to watch! I know these guys must know
the risks involved, and being a Blue Angel probably has to be
one of the highest honors bestowed upon them, but still....
it's very sad and a huge loss.

Just goes to show that even with tons of training, nothing is fail-safe...

I read that this had happened. How sad for the family. I hope that they will be taken care of.

This is a sad occurance, but it just goes to show how dangerous the profession of military display pilot is. Even the best in the world are at risk. The only comfort for the family will be the fact the pilot died doing what he loved.
Hopefully this wont affect the Blue angels display plans too much. As blunt as it may sound they have a job to do and the show must go on.
