  • Ever lost a fingernail?

A few weeks ago I hurt my finger when I fell off a stool.

AS I put out my hand to stop myself from falling, my nail hit the wall first and lifted quite a bit. I have acrylic nails so it didn't break.

So it bled a bit, and after a few days it seemed okay. Last week I took the acrylic off and cut back the real nail, but yesterday it lifted completely.

    (Are you grossed out yet?)

Anyway, now I have about 7 mms of nail, and I was wondering how long does it take to grow back? Will it grow back smooth and 'normal'?

Stand on one foot...jump up and down and bark like a dog!!!

This will do nothing to help your nail grow fast, but it will make me laugh!!!

I lost a nail once after I broke my finger when it was slammed in a car door...bloody hurt!!! It grew back smooth and normal, but living on a farm most of my life, my dad and brother lost nails right and left, and they did not always grow back normal!!!

I think it depends on the person!!! As far as how long...geez, I think it took over 6 weeks for mine to be grown out, but I could be wrong!!! I found if you keep it clean and moist that it will grow back and be pain free...

Hope this helped... probably not though!!!

Lots of hugs and kisses and prayers that you will have a normal nail again real soon!!!

It's gonna take months, babe. I'd definitely keep the acrylics off it until it comes back.

But eventually, it'll grow back good as new... and you won't be able to tell.

My big toe nail came completely off when I was like 13. It grew back, but it hurt.

I've lost five finger nails in my life, two from being hit in the hands by baseball and two from getting stepped on in football. The most recent when my finger got slammed in a door. It was peeling off, but I just ripped it off right away. It took a while to grow back, probably a two months. There is a rift in it now because some of the fingernail remained, so it's really funny looking. It'll take at least 6 weeks.

i peal my nails off once a year just for the fun of it

i actually had my big toe nail fall off.
a heavy stone block fell on it and it destroyed my toe nail.
it takes a while for it to grow back in
about 2 months from what i remember

I lost a nail before by a similar situation - catching a fall. I hit the tip of the nail very hard and my nail lifted up. The hard part was taking it the rest of the way off, as I didn't want it to get snagged (because I'd cry no doubt --- ). Anyhow, it took I'd say a good three months to cover the nailbed completely. It grew back smooth and normal, with a little white line that went across horizontally, but eventually that grew out as well. The nailbed seemed tender for quite a long time though. When my uncle had a heavy object land on his thumb, he lost the nail and it grew back but with a huge ridge vertically on the nailbed and it was always black and blue in color, has been for decades that same way. Maybe it depends strictly on what damage was done directly to the nailbed itself?

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I've never lost a nail, but my mother did once. Jammed it into a door. It was ridged and discolored when it grew back. And it would fall off again once every two years or so. I think HW is right, it depends on the type of injury.

My two daughters each lost a toe nail (told them not to play with the door). They both grew back normal.

yeah i kept the acrylic until it just was obviously lifting, then had it short for a week before it lifted completely and now i have this weirdo alien finger/nail bed looking thing.

Like my nails aren't weak and puny enough as it is.
