George Foreman is claiming in a new book that it was more than just Muhammad Ali that knocked him out in their 1974 Rumble in the Jungle fight.

According to his new memoir "God in My Corner," Foreman claims he was secretly drugged prior to his heavyweight title fight against Ali in the Democratic Republic of Congo (then known as Zaire). The ex-champ claims he was given a strange-tasting cup of water just prior to the fight.
"I almost spit it out ... Man, I know this water has medicine in it," Foreman told his trainer at the time, according to his book. "I climbed into the ring with that medicinal taste still lingering in my mouth ... After the third round, I was as tired as if I had fought 15 rounds. What's going on here? Did someone slip a drug in my water?"

Foreman's trainer denied the water had anything in it.

Ali won the fight with an eighth-round knockout.

In any other sport, I'd say it's ridiculous.

But in boxing, it's entirely possible.

And that is why the sport is nowhere near where it was in the 1950's and 60's.

Bitter in defeat, Foreman made many excuses after the fight, ranging from being drugged, to the ropes being loosened, to being distracted by a disloyal friend in the audience. To this day, however, no solid evidence regarding any impropriety has been brought forward. Foreman had been legitimately beaten by a great champion. Interviewed more recently for an Ali biography, Foreman graciously admits that Ali 'outthought and outfought' him and beat him 'fair and square'. He is also now proud to be a part of the 'Ali legend'.
I've seen this a couple of different places. *Shrug* IMO, he was beaten fair and square.

              I agree.

I'm sorry if it did happen that way... I know nothing about boxing in general or this fight in particular...

but what's to be gained from bringing it up now?

It's not exactly like they can prove/disprove it and/or re-fight.

It's too bad he feels like he needs to start re-hashing now. Life goes on.

                Very much agreed.
