I honestly don't think calling the cops was such a bad move.

I once had a neighbor shoot off fireworks until midnight, the big mortars that rattle your windows when they go off. The ordinance was you could light them off until 10 pm and it was 2 days before the 4th. I called the cops but they said it wasn't priority such as sneakers situation. I wouldn't normally be bothered by it but we had a 1 year old and she was sleeping.

If your neighbors can't respect others around them, then they probably won't bother listening to you in the first place... lack of common sense so to speak.

well the dog is barking for one reason or another, no food, water, chain all tangled (this was the case in my situation) well talking to the neighbors failed so every few nights for about two week after it would get dark i would sneak over and cut the chain and the dog would quit barking. after having to keep spending money to replace the chain the neighbors got wise and moved the dog away from what it was getting tangled on and i had no more barking dog problems. but remember its not the dogs fault it is barking for a reason so make sure it is being cared for ( has food, water, and is not roasting in the hot afternoon sun as these are reasons to involve the authorities right away)

I just found out that my roommate already filed a police report. I called the cops this morning after the thing had been barking for an hour from 7:30-8:30ish in the morning...they came over and talked to the owner appartently. Because it hasn't been barking except for a five minute period at night.

Plus I hope that this is just a weekend problem because I am pretty sure that the dog stays in while they at work (according to the other neighbors).

Last resort I was thinking is getting one of those devices that shoots off a ultra-high frequency whenever the dog barks...it conditions the dog not to bark.

Thanks for all the advise everyone!

They should be able to help and your neighbor wont know who called!

              Good Luck!

Exactly! I've got experience with this! Most neighbors don't appreciate being asked to do anything, unless you are friends first. Staying anonymous is the best solution.

Tried that myself a few years back. Gave the dog large milk bones and meat scraps. None of it works. They're just greedy little buggers.

Exactly! Like that neighbor doesn't know he has a barking dog already, right? If he cared to begin with, he'd never put you or any other neighbor in that tough position. I can say this, I own a 100 pound dog and spent the time training her not to bark. She'll argue with me once in awhile with low growls, but then again....she's all girl.

My dogs bark every now and then, but it's usually to warn the burgulars(aka: neighbours) in the hallway that they are alert, and willing to rip out their achilles tendons!

Other than that, Molly barks on our walks if I take too long to throw the ball, and Scrappy gives me 'Bout bloody time' yips when I get home from work!

But no constant barking thank god!

I'm going to agree with Reidman.

Unless they are legitimately a high functioning, yet mentally disabled person, they know that their dog barks incessantly, and are clearly not doing anything about it.

My first call would be to the humane society, however, not the police.

The Humane Society can then get the police involved if the barking is due to neglect or hunger.

I hope that's the end of the constant barking for you. That can be so annoying. We have a big dog in the neighborhood that barks for about half an hour. Not a big deal, except that it's 1:30-2:00am time frame.

Hey, sneakers, I notice by your number, you joined BC right before me.

This dog was out there from about 5pm to 2 am, and it would not stop barking...it constantly barks. (I sleep during the day, so I went to bed this morning, and woke up around 1pm to the dog barking.

I called the police dept. and they said that they were taking priority calls only this weekend, and told me to "call back in 1 or 2 hours" if it is still barking, and they may have an officer available.

I was able to get back to sleep, only to wake up around 7:30pm to the dog still barking...I went to work at 10:30pm, and it was still barking.

What should I do? Should I confront the Owner? (who I have never seen, but there are clearly people home during this whole time) Or try calling the police again? I want to be able to sleep too!
I would advise (A) Getting the dog to fight illegally against another dog until it dies (or you have to kill it yourself)
                            (B) Sleep with the neighbor's wife/girlfriend/sister/mom
That oughta piss him off. (If said neighbor is female than sleep with her)
