Calling the cops off the bat was the wrong move IMO.

Confront the neighbors. Ask them politely to take care of it because it is a hinderance (sp?) and is affecting your sleep. If they fail to take care of it, call the humane society and go from there.

If all else fails, get one of those AirSoft (sp?) beebee guns. KIDDING.
    I do agree with SR...

First try to talk to the owner and ask him (nicely) to do something about that... If he doesn't, then go to a upper level...

If nothing works, then call me... I know a hitman like me costs a lot of money, but, because you're my friend, you'll have a fair & cheap price

depending on your city, some have local barking laws. My folks had some bad barking dogs at one point, and if it surpassed 35 barks in one minute, they got a ticket.

But, talk to the neighbor before calling the cops- much nicer approach and I hope you would expect the same in return...

An improvement today....only woken up 2 times today. Once at 2:00...stopped barking at 3pm. Fell back to sleep at 3:15, and then started barking around 5:15, and still barking when I left for work at 10:30 tonight. Oh, and it is over 100 heat index today.

We have started a bark log, so we have credible information when we file a police report later this week.

Know whats pathetic how you call him pathetic and you don't even know him or the neighbours and jumping ahead and calling him pathetic...

If the dog keeps barking non-stop, even at 1:00 in the morning and I do the same... Why confront someone else you don't know are your gonna do is start a fight and get a rep.... Wow your pathetic....

Go with B that should do the trick - unless she keeps the dog in the divorce

This dog was out there from about 5pm to 2 am, and it would not stop barking...it constantly barks. (I sleep during the day, so I went to bed this morning, and woke up around 1pm to the dog barking.

I called the police dept. and they said that they were taking priority calls only this weekend, and told me to "call back in 1 or 2 hours" if it is still barking, and they may have an officer available.

I was able to get back to sleep, only to wake up around 7:30pm to the dog still barking...I went to work at 10:30pm, and it was still barking.

What should I do? Should I confront the Owner? (who I have never seen, but there are clearly people home during this whole time) Or try calling the police again? I want to be able to sleep too!

Because it hasn't been barking except for a five minute period at night.

Plus I hope that this is just a weekend problem because I am pretty sure that the dog stays in while they at work (according to the other neighbors).

Last resort I was thinking is getting one of those devices that shoots off a ultra-high frequency whenever the dog barks...it conditions the dog not to bark.

Thanks for all the advise everyone!

I hope that's the end of the constant barking for you. That can be so annoying. We have a big dog in the neighborhood that barks for about half an hour. Not a big deal, except that it's 1:30-2:00am time frame.

Hey, sneakers, I notice by your number, you joined BC right before me.

I'm going to agree with Reidman.

Unless they are legitimately a high functioning, yet mentally disabled person, they know that their dog barks incessantly, and are clearly not doing anything about it.

My first call would be to the humane society, however, not the police.

The Humane Society can then get the police involved if the barking is due to neglect or hunger.

I can say this, I own a 100 pound dog and spent the time training her not to bark. She'll argue with me once in awhile with low growls, but then again....she's all girl.
My dogs bark every now and then, but it's usually to warn the burgulars(aka: neighbours) in the hallway that they are alert, and willing to rip out their achilles tendons!

Other than that, Molly barks on our walks if I take too long to throw the ball, and Scrappy gives me 'Bout bloody time' yips when I get home from work!

But no constant barking thank god!
