  • Really need help!

Okay I am a Wide Receiver in football. #1 on the team.

But I have a glaring weakness, I cannot get off of press coverage!!! I tried ripping, and swimming. I tried kicking the corner, punching him, and the only thing that worked was a punch in the nuts.... hehe...

But really, I can't get off of it!

It is hard too because I am small and slow. 5'6 125 lbs. and 5.3 40 time..... And I only bench 95 max.

I start because I can run a route and catch the ball and always know the play. I am a decent blocker.

So please help with the press coverage!

I don't know if this is legal or not but it always works for me.

One arm pushes the guys arm and the other slaps the guy on the head. It's kind of a hybrid between a rip and swim I guess...

I always do it when us DBs are doing joint tackling drills with receivers. It's pretty awesome cause the DB coaches love it and the receiver coaches get fuming mad.

Has pretty much always worked for me, I just have to get really close and be quick though. The only time (or few times) I couldn't do it was when they grabbed my pads / jersey. But for the most part it works, I don't know whether its legal though (the slapping on the head part).

      Thanks CP.

I am even relying on dirty tricks. I mean, I need it.

I never had to worry about getting pressed at the line, mainly because of my speed and shiftyness.

One thing i could say is dirty tricks wont get you anything on the field because it devalues the game....

What i can recommend you do however....is just on your spare time lift weights or even run, anything that can get you an edge without having to break the rules and get the other team wanting to break your neck....lol

I don't know if this works for WRs, but it worked for me as a DE and I think it could work.....

You take a step one way, lets say right for this example (keep your knees bent to be able to shift quickly and stay low), your opponent then takes a step at you and engages you.

Take your left hand, and hit their shoulder pads (pushing their right shoulder into their helmet). Simultaneously, shift left, and rip with your right arm.

Or, you could just slap their hands down and use your small frame to squeeze by.

Definately try to work out on your free time too.

I also agree with str8. Don't use dirty tactics. Last thing you need is for your team to be penalized if you head slap (which is illegal) or nut-check your opponent.

Get down low so that they can't get their hands on you... then cut to whichever side will make your route easiest to run and sprint past them. If they can't get their hands on you without putting them on your back and ending up holding you, then you should be good.

i never had a problem getting off coverage, but one of my back ups did, and i overheard him being told by one our coaches to go home and practice the wax on, wax off thing- you know, from the karate kid.

i guess it develops quick hands and might help you get the defender from latching on.

i did this everyso often, but it depends on your route, but if you line up keep your hips and feet square, but twist your torso and point your shoulder straight ahead, the defender has less area to grab you, but it will slow you down a you have to untwist to get going. so you would need to do it on certain routes only, non speed routes that is.
                  So far:
                  FA- Melvin Gordon. Brandon Scherff
                  1. Kenneth Murray LB; 2. Shenault WR; 2B. Biadazz Center, 3. OT
