PROUD dad Tom Cruise was ecstatic yesterday over his "gorgeous" new baby girl.
And he praised fiancee Katie Holmes who gave birth Scientology-style in silence and was allowed home from hospital the same day.
Tom, 43, had emailed TV host Diane Sawyer after the delivery on Tuesday saying: "It's a girl! Her name is Suri she's absolutely gorgeous. Kate was and is an absolute champ."
Suri - meaning princess in Hebrew and red rose in Persian language Farsi - came into the world at a hospital in Santa Monica, California, with a full head of dark hair and blue eyes. A source said: "She's going to be a beautiful baby." Actress Katie, 27, went on a £22,000 shopping spree two days before Suri's birth.
She bought US size 2 clothes, including a £4,000 leather biker's jacket, for when she slims down.
An onlooker said: "Katie wasn't even answering her cell phone. When Cruise called one of her bodyguards, Katie said she'd have to call back when she was done." Tom's friend, fellow Scientologist Kirstie Alley, sent her congratulations. She said: "Tom does everything 150 per cent, and fatherhood he does 300 per cent. They're going to have a great kid."
Actress Brooke Shields, who had a spat with Tom over taking anti-depressants for her post-natal depression, gave birth to daughter Grier Hammond on the same day.
