  • [Avs] Colorado Avalanche 2016-2017 Season Thread

Signed Picks for two years today. I'm excited about that!

Hoping we can resign Barrie but I can live without him if he holds out for too much in arbitration.

Patrick Roy announces he's leaving Colorado Avalanche organization, where he was head coach and VP of hockey ops
Kristen Shilton ‏@kristen_shilton 6m6 minutes ago

Roy says vision of HC/VP needs to be aligned with organization and he must have say in decisions team makes, but those needs not being met.

My opinion is known in here. Roy was an overrated coach who fluked into one good season as a rookie head coach. I'm not really sad to hear this.

I mean I am a little for nostalgia purposes. But he wasn't taking us anywhere

Well, not a good time of year to be HC hunting either way.

Headline in Detroit, texted to me by my brother:

"Patrick Roy does what Patrick Roy does- Quits amid temper tantrum".

Well now I do agree with that and was my first concern when I heard the news.

Ask your brother if Osgood feels the same way. Then ask him if his face still hurts from that pounding Roy gave him.

Actually, my brother, a huge Avs fan, texted me from the Rangers/Rockies game in Dallas. I don't know how he got a hold of that headline.

And although I don't blame the last couple of seasons on Roy, I'm guessing that this saves Joe Sakic from having to fire Roy after next season. If they can pry open Kroenke's wallet, maybe they can find a good coach.

Oh my bad. So my trash talk is poorly directed at him. But still stands for those Detroit journalists.

Story on the bad timing of Roy's resignation in Avs search for a new coach.

                      http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/08/16/...bcs&yptr=yahoo

Marc Crawford's name is mentioned in that story. And I don't know how anybody else feels about it, but after what happened between Vancouver, Crawford, Bertuzzi, and Steve Moore, if the Avs were to even consider hiring Crawford, or approaching Ottawa where Crawford is now "Associate" Coach, I would become a Detroit Redwings fan. And this comes from a guy who was an original Colorado Rockies Hockey team fan, back in the 1970s.

If Sakic can't find a coach, he can get his keester out on the ice and coach that team. Isn't Adam Foote still around? I'm sure he would consider being an assistant.

Anyone know anything about the new Avs coach?

                          First off, go Flames go!

Secondly, I hope Joe Colborne has success with the Avalanche. Always seemed like a good likeable player, even days after the Flames didn't give him a qualifying offer he was out in the community doing charity work on behalf of the Flames. Seemed like they would figure it out and get him back, but it was meant to be. Hopefully he has success for the 'Lanche.

As for Bednar, he's been coaching in the minors for a while, he's won championships, as the head coach, in both the ECHL and AHL. He has no NHL coaching experience at all, but he's certainly shown in the minors that he can coach winning teams. Cmsidering the situation they were put in, I think it's an excellent hire.
