Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

2022-2023 Colorado Avalanche Season -- DEFEND THE CUP
Kuemper sustained an eye injury in the first round round. And even while dealing with effects, he still played well. He wasn't horrible.
And Georgiev was an unknown as a full time starter, which is why I had tempered expectations. His performance this year has shown that he is more than up to the task, which is great.
Kuemper was absolutely horrible. I am aware he suffered an injury and it wasn't his fault but he put up some of the worst numbers of any goalie to ever be on a cup winning team.
Of the 18 goalies who played significant minutes in the playoffs last year, Kuemper was 17th in goals saved above average at -4.26. Only Ville Husso was worse. Francouz was at -1.06 playing behind the same team.
By comparison, Shesterkin was +11.93. Even the much maligned Mike Smith was nearly even at -0-06.

I think you're downplaying the significance of the eye injury and the impact it has on a goalie. There were also some defensive breakdowns that lead to some of those bad goals as well.
Not saying Kuemper was spectacular but he was not horrible. You can throw out GSAA stat but that's just reaching. The most important stat is he had a 2.57 GAA and a .902 save % in 14 playoff games compared to a 2.81 GAA and .906 save % in 6 games for Francouz...all playing behind the same team.
Point being, Francouz was not significantly better, but simply just as good. Kuemper did his part in helping the AVs win the Cup. He was not horrible. If he was, the Avs would not have won the Cup, or, he would have been benched for Francouz.
You can't say he was horrible if he continued to get the nod over Pavel. Bednar would have made a change.
Look, I'm not Kuemper fan. I'm an Avs fan and I just give credit where credit is due.
If you think he was horrible, fine. His "horrible" performance helped us win the Stanley Cup in one of the most dominant playoff runs in recent memory....all while playing most of it after being poked in the eye.
But, we got our championship and he's in Washington now, so, moving on.....

GSAA is not reaching. It's the metric most NHL GMs use to evaluate their goalies. Kuemper was letting in beachballs all playoffs long.
I already acknowledged that he had the injury and that it wasn't his fault, but it doesn't change what we saw on the ice.
He absolutely WAS horrible, and the fact that the Avs won anyway just goes to show how great the team was. He wasn't benched for Francouz because Francouz is a backup, and not even among the best backups in the league at that.
welp lehkonen broker his finger and needs surgery - out probably until playoffs at least i would imagine
We've had ridiculous luck with injuries, think we broke the all time record for a defending champion with most games missed to injury by the halfway mark.
Avs called Galchenyuk up to fill in, he's had 33 pts in 33 games with the Eagles.

Helm - travelling with the team, return imminent
Landeskog - ramping up skating, still not practicing
Manson - not yet skating but doing some stick handling drills on dry ground
Lehkonen - out 4-6 weeks, may make it back for the first playoff game
Francouz - skated for the first time in full pads yesterday, didn't practice
Johnson - skating at full speed, seems to be closer than anybody else but Helm
If we can just make it through the year without any additional injuries there's a legitimate shot we'll have the full roster for the playoffs.
Malgin has been outstanding lately. Going to be some tough scratches if everyone does indeed get healthy.

All I want is a healthy roster for the playoffs. Oh, and the number 1 seed, and another Cup.
