  • Top 10 Essential Albums

What are 10 (or whatever number) albums that you think every music listener should have? They can be either based upon your recommendation, the album's influence to the world of music, and whether or not it will be remembered 50 years from now.

The Beatles - Rubber Soul, Abbey Road

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, Animals, Atom Heart Mother, or Dark Side of the Moon

    Rush - A Farewell to Kings, 2112

    John Lennon - Imagine

Queen - Get a greatest hits album

The White Stripes - De Stijl, White Blood Cells, Elephant, the rest

De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising (essential to any hip hop listener)

Radiohead - OK Computer, Kid A

    Nirvana - Nevermind

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

I like your list. So I will add my own...

    Soundgarddn - A-sides

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon / The Wall / Wish you were here.

Alice in Chains - Facelift, Dirt or Jar of Flies

    Queensyrhce - Operation Mindcrime

    Pearl Jam - Ten

    Rush - Probably 2112

    The Who - Who's Next?

    Tool - 10,000 days

Temple of the Dog (Chris Cornell project) - Temple of the Dog

Alice Cooper - Brutal Planet /or Stone Temple Pilots - Core

This seems like a good list for me right now, I wouldn't necessarily recommend these to all listeners but to me it doesn't get much better than these ten right here. Other then the last line of the two bands on there they are pretty much all musically brilliant.

Why isnt Michael Jacksons "Thriller" or "Bad" getting any props?? There are so many hits on those 2 Albums.

Disclaimer: I don't support MJ's life outside of music.

                        2-Pac.. All Eyes on Me

Has to be one of the best Cd's ever made.

and I also happen to love Rascal Flatts .. Me and my gang.

De La Soul - 3 Feet High And Rising
                              Gangstarr - Daily Operation
                              The Beatles Anthology
Marvin Gaye - I Want You
                              Diana Ross - The Boss
                              Billy Joel - 57th Street
                              Best of The Doobie Brothers
Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814
Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
Michael Jackson - Off The Wall - people mentioned Thriller, but this album would be ranked higher on people's list if Thriller wasn't so damn good. It was great.

This list needs to be expanded since I have to thrown in a Guns and Roses, Steviw Wonder, Queen, U2, more Marvin Gaye & Billy Joel and A Tribe Called Quest's first two albums.
