  • Man hung himself on Mel Gibson's property

LOS ANGELES - Authorities on Thursday were investigating the apparent suicide of a construction worker found hanged inside a house being built on a piece of property owned by Oscar-winner Mel Gibson.

The victim was found Wednesday morning by the foreman of the job site, located in the Agoura Hills area northwest of Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department detective Eddie Brown, who is conducting the investigation.

County property tax records show the nearly 9-acre parcel of land is owned by Gibson, 52, through his Millicent Trust. And according to the celebrity news Web site TMZ.com, which broke the story, the site is less than a mile from the Holy Family Catholic Church founded by Gibson, whose daughter was married there in 2006.

Neither of the two buildings at the site are occupied, and sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said, “there’s absolutely no indication that Mel Gibson ... was even aware of the incident.”

A spokesman for “The Passion of the Christ” director said neither Gibson nor family members have ever resided at the address but declined to comment otherwise.

Brown said the death appeared to be a suicide, but the official cause of death will be determined by the coroner.

The victim was identified as Michael John Van Dyke, 48, of Bonsall, California, who TMZ.com reported had worked as a construction foreman on a number of movie sets, including “The Matrix Reloaded” and “Doctor Dolittle.”

A spokesman for the coroner’s office said Van Dyke was a friend of a contractor at the job site where he was found.

Gibson won Academy Awards in 1996 for his work as director and producer on the historical drama “Braveheart,” in which he also starred.

    this infuriates me.

do you see what the media cares about? they didn't give a crap about the guy that died.

they just repeated: "oh by the way, Mel Gibson won an Oscar...."

"hey, don't forget Mel Gibson won an Oscar....."

"hey, hey.....this dude died on OSCAR winner Mel Gibson's property..."

"hey, did we mention it was Mel Gibson?"

"nevermind the guy's family, or the guy himself (we already forgot his name because we really only care about Mel Gibson."

    F$#^ you Hollywood!

I don't think it was a coincidence that the guy hung himself on the property, on Easter, when Mel directed "The Passion of Christ." I think thats the point.

The guy himself PUT himself in that situation. The guy himself decided to end his life on a celebrities property to make a statement (of some kind). Finding a man who hung himself in the United States (or the world) isn't unusual. Finding a man that hung himself on ANOTHER man's property is EXTREMELY unusual.

Finding a man that hung himself on another man's property that happened to be a celebrity.. is HUGE. Seeing it happened on Easter, on Mel Gibson's property... is something. This wouldn't be a story at ALLLLL if it wasn't Mel Gibson's property.

that's the point Ravage. The media doesn't give a crap about anyone but the rich and famous. If he'd hung himself in his own home, we would never have known...

But you said it: it was Mel Gibson's property... thus, that makes it a story.

But the thing is, there was no need to keep repeating that it was Gibson's property, nor was there need AT ALL to even bring up that Gibson is an award winning celebrity....because that doesn't matter at all...

In fact, they probably loosely interpreted that because Gibson said he and his family don't even live on the property. And he wouldn't have to... several celebrities own multiple homes, and several properties around the states, or even world....but that could mean anything....

I highly doubt it would even be a big deal if someone shot themself in a bathroom in Trump Tower. Donald Trump owns it.......but.....that's not the point.

it makes sense when you're still alive, that is if you're the kind of drama queen/attention whore that this guy apparently was. Maybe he is watching the aftermath unfold from the afterlife...
