Agreed. The book is awesome as it is. There is no reason to change any aspect of it.

Dont know what they were doing.

While I found I am Legend to be an entertaining film, I would never really associate it with the novella. The real I am Legend is one of my favorite pieces of literature of all time. Right up there with The Old Man and The Sea, The Stand, Watchers, and The Gift of the Magi.

Another series I wouldn't mind seeing on film would be the Dragonlance Chronicles, by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman. It was decently written and a pretty good story, even if heavily based on a Dungeons and Dragons RPG adventure.

I must add that no book/movie series will ever be as good as The Lord of the Rings-you just cant top the greatest books ever written paired with one of the greatest movies ever made

                A-fing-men.

LOTR was simply the best. I read the books before the movies very proud of myself for that lol.

Has anyone else read the Silmarillion?
                A book I wrote

Yes, twice... and unfortunately I think I will have to read it again. I started to read the latest Tolkien release, "The Children of Húrin", and realized I don't remember many of the early details. The Silmarillion is one of the hardest books to read; for many reasons, so I'm not really looking forward to it even though I'm a huge Tolkien fan.

As far as movies go I don't think "The Silmarillion" would be very good. It might be okay if they limited the scope and allowed the screenplay writers a massive amount of authorial freedom. Perhaps "The Children of Húrin" fits the standard book/movie mold a little better.

I liked Dragonlance. While fairly juvenile when compared with Martin's stuff, it is a good story that's well-written with great characters. It's the kind of fantasy series that would translate well in to a movie.

A high school classmate of mine made it his life's dream to make that movie. But, last I heard he was doing landscaping in SF so I don't think that's going too well.

I think I remember reading something about.... yep. http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/

                    Animated, I think.... hmmm...

I've read LOTR trilogy twice, The Hobbit 3 times, and attempted the Silmarillion once. I made it about 1/4 of the way through before I became so thoroughly confused that I put it down. It's biggest downfall is that Tolkien never finished the book. It was basically still a rough draft that was published posthumously, so never had a chance to refine it.

I once bought a guide... forget what it was called, but it was supposed to help with reading not only the Silmarillion, but LOTR and the Hobbit as well. It listed all the characters and places and things like that alphabetically, so if you had a question about who was who, you could easily look it up.

Unfortunately, I never got around to attempting the Silmarillion for several years and then I couldn't find the guide I had purchased..... *sigh*

                      Someday, man, someday......

A few years back I went to go buy the Silmarillion but the book store didnt have it. They did have Children of Huron but it was like 30 bucks. But yeah, theres a ton of books out there that have a whole history of Middle Earth, Id really like to get them and start reading. Tolkien definitely had one hell of an imagination and created an awesome world.

I really want to read the LOTR trilogy, so maybe Ill get back into those before I dive into something else.

                            No Remorse

I wish they'd remake The Sum of All Fears to actually follow the damn book. They totally screwed that movie up so bad, it was insanely stupid, and not even close to the book.

Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, and the Hunt for Red October all follow the books pretty closely.

I wish they'd stick with one actor for Jack Ryan though. I thought Harrison Ford did the best job of all the actors. Ben Affleck sucked, although I did like Alec Baldwin in Hunt for Red October.

I love all his books, and have read all of them...best military fiction books ever written.
