My favorite book of all time is already the best mini-series of all time. McMurtry's Lonesome Dove.
But I got a couple new, and a few remakes.
1) Can we please get a decent Dune movie? C'mon people this is getting ridiculous. The Sci Fi miniseries sucked too
2)The Hobbit. 2011 can't come sooner. I'll never forget the car ride home where my father told me about this creature Gollum that eats little people with big feet called hobbits. I was 8 years old; I was scared outta my brains.
3)Y'all might flame me, but I want to see Mein Kampf as a movie. Just imagine a 3 1/2 hour biography of the most evil man ever. Scary **** right there.
4) The Ramayana. Crazy wizard Hindu warriors battle over the most beautiful women in the history of the world. Much cooler than any Greek stories we ever learned.
5) Abbey's The Monkey Wrench Gang. Sponsored by the Sierra Club. I vote Kevin Spacey for the role of the doctor.👍 1Leave a comment:

The Night's Dawn Trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton
any remaining Crichton novel that hasn't yet. Prey would be awesome and I'd enjoy State of Fear because it would upset all the global warming people.
*thinks*
Conn Iguldon's Emperor series.
that's all i can think of for now..Leave a comment:

THE GUNSLINGER
i heard they were thinking of making a movie but its going to be one tough job... the seven book series is fantastic and a movie would either kill it or make it even more amazing...
they now have comics out on the series but i havent read them yetLeave a comment:

I actually saw that they picked out the cast, and it looked pretty solid as far as I can tell.
I was a fan of Sean Bean in LOTR and he will play Eddard Stark. That chick from 300 will play Cersei Lannister, she'll have to dye her hair blonde obviously. Most of the rest I haven't heard of but they looked pretty similar to the characters they will be playing.
I dont know if they have Tywin Lannister even as a character yet, but I remember watching Underworld and the guy who played Viktor, and thinking if they ever made a Song of Ice and Fire movie or TV series that he would really fit as Tywin.

The two that sprang to my mind where:
Combat Crew: A True Story of Flying and Fighting in World War II by John Comber
Decision of Schweinfurt by Thomas M.Coffey
Both are about B-17 Crews in Word War II. The first is the "Dairy" of John Comber missions. The second focus on the bombing run on August 17th, 1943to Schweinfurt, a mission in which my Grandpa took part in. This was a BRUTAL raid deep into the heart of Nazi Germany.
If they ever are made I hope the don't do a "Hollywood" version of what it was like for the crews of the 8th Air Force. It mad my Grandpa so mad when they would miss simple things like not using the "throat mics". For example "Memphis Belle" has a steaming pile of crap.Leave a comment:

Nah, it was a coloring book.
That series should have stopped 10 years ago.Leave a comment:

ah good thread!!!
I wish the rest of Tom Clancy's books were made into movies.
Red Sun Rising
Debt of Honor
Executive Decision
Rainbow Six
Teeth of the Tiger
Red Rabbit
Cardinal of the Kremlin
The Bear and the Dragon
No Remorse
I wish they'd remake The Sum of All Fears to actually follow the damn book. They totally screwed that movie up so bad, it was insanely stupid, and not even close to the book.
Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, and the Hunt for Red October all follow the books pretty closely.
I wish they'd stick with one actor for Jack Ryan though. I thought Harrison Ford did the best job of all the actors. Ben Affleck sucked, although I did like Alec Baldwin in Hunt for Red October.
I love all his books, and have read all of them...best military fiction books ever written.Leave a comment:

Yes, twice... and unfortunately I think I will have to read it again. I started to read the latest Tolkien release, "The Children of Húrin", and realized I don't remember many of the early details. The Silmarillion is one of the hardest books to read; for many reasons, so I'm not really looking forward to it even though I'm a huge Tolkien fan.
As far as movies go I don't think "The Silmarillion" would be very good. It might be okay if they limited the scope and allowed the screenplay writers a massive amount of authorial freedom. Perhaps "The Children of Húrin" fits the standard book/movie mold a little better.I've read LOTR trilogy twice, The Hobbit 3 times, and attempted the Silmarillion once. I made it about 1/4 of the way through before I became so thoroughly confused that I put it down. It's biggest downfall is that Tolkien never finished the book. It was basically still a rough draft that was published posthumously, so never had a chance to refine it.
I once bought a guide... forget what it was called, but it was supposed to help with reading not only the Silmarillion, but LOTR and the Hobbit as well. It listed all the characters and places and things like that alphabetically, so if you had a question about who was who, you could easily look it up.
Unfortunately, I never got around to attempting the Silmarillion for several years and then I couldn't find the guide I had purchased..... *sigh*
Someday, man, someday......
I really want to read the LOTR trilogy, so maybe Ill get back into those before I dive into something else.Leave a comment:

I liked Dragonlance. While fairly juvenile when compared with Martin's stuff, it is a good story that's well-written with great characters. It's the kind of fantasy series that would translate well in to a movie.
A high school classmate of mine made it his life's dream to make that movie. But, last I heard he was doing landscaping in SF so I don't think that's going too well.
I think I remember reading something about.... yep. http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/
Animated, I think.... hmmm...
