So its late, I am blowing off HW, not a good habit to start I guess but I figure while I'm up, I'll just ask this.
Which book would you like to see made as a movie?
I have two
Gates of Fire, Stephen Pressfield-
A novel about Thermopylae from a very interesting perspective. I found reading this book was much more entertaining than watching "300" which is based off a graphic novel and thus has many historical oversights. "Gates of Fire" Lends much more to the historical perspective of the events leading up to the battle and the battle itself. For instance, Leonidas' age, (He was almost 60 when the battle was fought) The Thespians who stood with the Spartans to the end (Most people believe it was only the Spartans who remained after the majority of the Greeks retreated, but a force of several hundred Thespians remained behind to stand and die with the Spartans). If it was made a movie I think it could tell the story much more effectively than "300", simply because the best stories are the ones that are believable and based more deeply in fact and truth.
A Song of Ice and Fire, George RR Martin-
I know there are a few fans out there on these boards. The only real drawback of making a movie of this series is the sheer length and detail that would have to be emphasized. So far there are 4 books, with a 5th one coming out soon (hopefully), and each is at least 700 pages with some that are over 1000. And these arent light pages, they are laden with intricate detail and weaving complex storylines. There are many characters with very important roles, you simply couldnt pick out a singular main character if you tried. That being said, these books are extremely entertaining. George RR Martin has done a great job at keeping the reader guessing with many twists and turns. I have read each book several times over(Yes theyre that good) And I sometimes uncover an underlying storyline I missed on the first go round. Even I couldnt give you a real concrete answer if you asked me how I think the series will finish. I am really excited for the new book (comes out in the fall I believe?) and to see where Martin takes the story.
Anyone please feel free to give your thoughts on mine and what books you would like to see hit the big screen.
