  • The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed

Yes this is a book review...I read the Dark Tower Series long ago but only recently got onto this forum. I don't plan on making the reviews for these very long, and they won't give away to much for anyone that has yet to read the fantastic books...

    Dark Tower: The Gunslinger

"The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed" opening quote

Book 1 starts off with The Gunslinger (Roland Deschain) running through a desert after The Man in Black. You won't find out who this man is till near the end of the book. You quickly come across a station where you find Jake a young boy. You find out that Jake lived in another world where he had been killed and woke to find himself in the station where The Gunslinger finds him. After a very exciting page turner of other beings you come to and end with The Man in Black and The Gunslinger. They sit around a fire and talk till the books end.

Though I may not have written a very good review of the book itself, I recommend it to anyone that enjoys a good novel. It is not like the normal Stephen King books you would read. I am also trying to work on my review skills so if you have any pointers for me feel free to tell me.

The other 6 books will be reviewed on this same thread....so check back regularly...or post your own review of any of them...i'll still do all of them regardless...

I have read EVRERY ONE of Kings books except for the Gunsliner series, and his new one, so I appreciate this.

Is it just me, or has he kind of gotten mellower with his books and subject matter since his accident?

Probably made him rethink things...it could have made him do a change of style slightly. Though I did enjoy Duma Key and Liseys Story. And I'm waiting for Under the Dome to come out...

I'd recommend reading the actual Robert Browning poem first....as well as It, Salems Lot, Insomnia....the series would have a bigger impact if you read it after those.....IMO...given the way they crossover.....also in pre-gunslinger fashion you can read the short story which appears in the Legends 2 book....sorry not trying to hijack you....but adding what I'd recommend before jumping into the dark tower series
"Badger my a$$ it's probably Milhouse...."

oh its welcome...there are some books of his that if you read first you will better understand the series. As you pass through different worlds in the series you will find that you are passing through these books...or maybe a character is all that is relevant to the story. If you want to read those before hand im sure wikipedia has the list of all Dark Tower related books.

Aaaaaah, The Dark Tower! I freaking love that series!

That opening passage is smooth. I found the first four books to be the best, while the remaining three sort of dragged on.

I still love them, though. I've listened to them all on audio books over the years, and I'm currently on my eighth run-through.

Yes I would have to agree with you on that. The last three it seems he just pushed them out so he could finish them and be done with it. Though they were good they could have been better if he took more time on them.

If anyone is wondering I am still planning on doing a review for book 2. Just a little busy right now. I'll probably get the other 6 done this week though. I'm on a week long vacation starting tomorrow.
