  • sneaker's Top 10 emo albums of all time

Now that emo as a genre of music has been dead for over 5 years, I think it is a good time to look back to some of the greatest albums of my favorite music genre. Sadly, most of the bands below are no longer active.

But before you reply: "Emo sux LOL" or "Go cut yourself!", give it a listen because you probably have absolutely no idea what emo is.

    Number 10:
The Appleseed Cast - Low Level Owl: Volume 1 (2001)
The Appleseed Cast combine raw emotion with technical playing, listening to them almost puts you in a trance, but seeing them in concert makes the hairs on your neck stand up for hours.

    Suggested Listening:

    Number 9:

The Juliana Theory - Understand This is a Dream (1999)

Former Zao guitarist left to be the front man of The Juliana Theory. This is their first album, they came out with 4 or 5 more but this is my favorite. This CD has lots of catchy hooks and awesome lyrics.

    Suggested Listening:
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

    Number 8:

Alkaline Trio - Maybe I'll Catch Fire (2000)

While Alkaline Trio may not be an emo band, they certainly made some effing awesome emo albums (their first 3). Dan Andriano really shines in this album.

    Number 7:

Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary (1994)

This album pretty much created the modern emo genre, I have never heard anyone speak ill of it...The lead singer is considered a demigod among emo fanciers.

    Suggested Listening:

    Number 6:

Jimmy Eat World - Clarity (1999)

Just an absolutely beautiful album with lots of subtle hooks and excellent drumming. A complete album of close to an hour long, with no crappy filler songs.

    Suggested Listening:
Beautiful song!Lucky Denver Mintby Jimmy Eat WorldFrom the album: Claritypictures: www.jimmyeatworld.comThanks for watching!

    Number 5:

The Early November - The Room's Too Cold (2003)

The Crowning achievement of the last of the great emo bands. The dynamic contrast in this album lulls you to sleep and then startles you with sudden intensity.

    Suggested Listening:
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

    Number 4:

Mineral - The Power of Failing (1995)

I tried to keep this one off the list because there is another Mineral album further down the list, but I couldn't. This album is so ground breaking that it is absolutely hard to believe that it is their first album and that it was made 15 year ago!

    Suggested Listening:
Mineral - Gloria (LYRICS)=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=A brave morningThoughts flap their wings and flyAnd I can still tasteDefeat on my lipsBright tide, fish flyI have n...

    Number 3:

The Promise Ring - Nothing Feels Good (1997)

The finest band Milwaukee (or Wisconsin) ever produced. They have so many apparent flaws (lead singer not the greatest of voices) that somehow only adds to their appeal.

    Suggested Listening:
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

    Number 2:

Further Seems Forever - The Moon Is Down (1999)

Before singer Chris Caraba became wildly successful (and helped to spell the doom of emo as a music genre) with his solo project Dashboard Confessional, he recorded this album. It is personally my favorite album of all time, it brings up so many different feeling and memories in my life.

    Suggested Listening:
Music video by Further Seems Forever performing Snowbirds And Townies.

    Number 1:

    Mineral - EndSerenading (1998)

Absolutely the best emo album ever, I cannot describe how well this album is able to make one feels so many different emotions at once while listening...guaranteed to bring one to tears with the lyrics in front of one's eyes. This is Mineral's second and last album.

    Suggested Listening:
& Serenading - Mineral.9th song from End Serenading, the second album from 90's band Mineral. So i know how hard it is to find a good recording of these guys,...

Only band I've heard of from the list is Jimmy Eat World.

I love "The Middle". Catchy song by them.

Personally, even though it is a remake, I love Sonic Youth's Cover of "Superstar" by the Carpenters.
The Browns are gone; I'm not a fan of the Impostors

The real Browns are in Baltimore, see?

Alkaline Trio- Maybe I'll Catch Fire is a great album. Radio is a really great tune. People need to not judge. There's some great music under the label of Emo. Some on here I don't know so thanks for the suggestions.

                  Jimmy Eat World owns.

Juliana Theory was good too as well as Early November.

Further Seems Forever as well, however Dashboard owned Emo man... i don't know why you would say he killed it. some of his later albums may have been Meh-mo, but... the first few were outstanding.

also i think the original Emo genre spawned a bunch of stuff... i would put all those other bands like My Chemical Romance, and any band with a fluffy ass name like that in the post-emo genre... those are the bands that spawned the "emo" trend in young teens where they wore black and cut themselves etc.

the funny thing is: not ONE of those "emo" kids have any idea what "emo" really is, or where their little trend even came from. most of it was really a sissy version of goth.

Ding Ding Ding! That's it exactly. Most emo bands were from the midwest and dressed like hicks or jocks and were outright dorks...for example:

                          Appleseed Cast:

                          Mineral:

                          Discount (my favorite):

                          Jimmy Eat World:

                          The Promise Ring:

There is absolutely no correlation from emo bands and the stupid "emo" fashion trend

yeah and even Carrabba didn't dress like he was going to a funeral:

and he was a wolly-whiner in most of his song.... but......alas, it made fore awesome "eff you b---" music.

i blame Carrabba for encouraging me to be extremely, cold, dark and bitter after my last relationship ended lol. woops.
