  • December 8, 1980: The day the music died.

Hard to believe it has been 29 years since John Lennon died. Every year, on Dec. 8, I think of what could have been, all the great music we will never hear, and the amazing life that was taken from this world.

    John, we miss you.

I disagree. Music died during the 90s when the major labels began targeting teenage girls.

I didn't realize that was also Dec. 8. A sad day all around.

Many great musicians have died prematurely, but what really gets to me about Lennon was the way he died. Truly a tragedy. Same with Dimebag. Such a senseless waste of talent and life.

Actually, he was singing about the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and The Big Bopper in 1959. But the line seems appropriate for Lennon as well. Please disregard this post if you already knew that.

Dimebag's cool, but I wouldn't call any of his work "genre defining"

I have always liked John Lennon and The Beatles. It is truly a tragedy we lost him 29 years ago. I was never alive to feel his impact on the world first hand. From older people who speak of him they have nothing but good things to say. Every generation has lost their pop/rock/music God and icon early. Elvis, John Lennon, and Michael Jackson.

May John Lennon continue to rest in peace. His music brought the world together and created a lot of love.

Lennon was killed when I was 4. Kurt Cobain was the one who defined my generation.

Oh...wow- didn't know that. I always was under the impression that McClean never talked about his reasoning for it. Kinda cool tho, thanks
