  • Was the Superbowl The Who's last gig? (link)

With only one show scheduled for all of 2010, it may be the end of The Who. Townshends ears have been badly damaged for decades and they aren't getting any better. He has nothing else to prove. I say retire and go help young, upcoming musicians make a career.

If your referring to The Who, Zak Starkly has been the drummer for quite some time.

        Imo ...

... they suffered greatly when they lost Keith Moon.

When John Entwistle died on tour a while back, the WHO died too.

It simply wouldn't be The Who without Townshend.

Who was also in Oasis with Noel Gallagher. Were you referring to the comment before I editted? I got the members mixed up

My bad, it was Liam, and it was for a short run of shows. I hope it doesn't happen anyway, I hate Liam Gallagher.

Completely agree, and with the comment about Moon, Keith Moon embodied everything The Who were.

I never much cared for Moon's replacement, Kenney Jones. I understand why he was the choice based on The Who's long standing relationship with the Small Faces, but his drumming stlye was at the other end of the spectrum from Moon. Zak Starkley I like very much. I'm told that Keith taught him how to play the drums. Zak seems quiet and reserved like Jones, but far more talented. Now I must ask the question if Townshend leaves The Who, should the band name go with him? Jimmi Page and Robert Plant did not call themselves Led Zepplin when they reunited in the 1990's. If Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr ever teamed up, would they call themselves The Beatles? After the airplane accident that claimed the lives of Lynyrd Skynyrd front man Ronnie Van Zant as-well-as Steve and Cassie Gaines, Van Zants wife had a clause written into the bands contract that the band name could be used only as long as so many surviving members were alive. The death of bassist Leon Wilkeson in 2001 brought the number to one, and the recent death of pianist Billy Powell should have sealed the name Lynyrd Skynyrd into history forever.

Daltrey, in my humble and somewhat poorly informed opinion, is arrogant enough and spiteful enough to Pete Townsend to tour under the name "The Who".

And I agree. As fit as Daltrey appears at his age I believe even he is having some health issues. I read from The Who's web site a number of months back that either The Who, or Daltrey solo were/was here in the states on tour and had problems with losing his voice. One show had to be postponed I believe. Daltrey being the only Who member up on stage would remind me of the closing scene from Godfather III when Michael Corleone was all alone at his villa in Scicily and died with a orange in his hand. I know, a bit dramatic, but when you mentioned Daltrey being arrogant enough to call himself alone The Who, that popped into my mind first.

If the sound system was anything like it was at Wembley last year it probably didn't do them any favours. I saw The Who about 4 years ago and they were absolutely incredible, although not as loud as I was expecting as Pete's hearing is going apparently!

I thought the light show was out of this world though!
