  • So a new avatar

No I'm not talking about more blue people, or the terrible movie that was put out not to long ago, but rather the cartoon series.

Its not gonna be with the same characters but rather will be following the new avatar and takes place 70 years after the original. My friend showed me this and I figured I would put it up because I saw how many people were actually interested in the cartoon and actually was surprised by it.

Nickelodeon has announced plans for a new spinoff series from the creators of the cartoon epic "Avatar: The Last Airbender." The new show from Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko has the working title of "The Legend of Korra" and will premiere on Nickelodeon in 2011. A live action theatrical movie based on the cartoon series called "The Last Airbender" was released earlier this summer to pans from critics and better-than-expected box office.

Theres the link to it. It contains a few cool key details like the new avatar gets taught by aangs son, so it leaves it open that aang had a child maybe with katara?

The thing here is the storyline just is to out played and what not. I mean the first one was pretty cool with him having to learn all the elements than battleing the fire lord, and bringing an end to a worldwide war, which is pretty epic IMO. But rather with this one it seems just over used and old. I mean the article leads you to believe that Korra the new avatar main goal will be to restore order to a chaotic city, which is basically the story line for any super hero ever made. The anti bending in the plot will be a good twist, but I mean this has also been seen a bunch of times from xmen to the comic of civil war from marvel.

I'm some what hype for this, but I know it will never be what the first one is, and probably after watching a few episodes of this you will just become nostalgic of the first avatar and will just pop in the dvd set of that instead.

The only thing that is certain is that this has some huge shoes to fill because the first avatar was an amazing series.

heard about this a long time ago. i'll watch it. it'll probably be pretty entertaining. they likely won't go as epic as The Last Airbender since they will be focusing on one particular city.

it's not a big deal that they are using the super-hero-esque stance here. i mean Aang was basically a super hero lol.

like someone commented on the article, as long as they develop the characters just as well and they reference the original it should be fine. especially if they have Aang show up like Roku did.

Aloha Philly Bronco, Thanks for the post. I love Avatar, It all started when my niece and nephews came over to visit us a some time ago. They would watch either Zack & Cody, Hannah Montana, Sponge Bob, Pheneous & Ferb or Avatar. And i took a liking to "Avatar: The Last Air Bender" and turned into watching it even though when they had gone back home to Maui. I think that Aangs story atleast sets a background for the forthcoming series "The Legend Of Korra", For anyone or atleast the new generation of keiki's to lookback and get a feel of how the whole Avatar thing got started, Kinda like the "Star Trek" fans or "Star Wars" fans (But in reverse for SW fans). I can't wait to see the upcoming series of Korra, But will miss all of the old characters, Especially Appa, Momo, Aang and the rest of the gang. Mahalo & GOD bless.

This is great. Great thread! I used to watch Avatar all the time, it was, in my opinion, Nick's best show at the time, yet that is subjective I'm sure.

Looking forward to it, but I still wish they would have cleared some other points up, like most importantly, Zuko's Mom! Maybe they will.

Nick is doing a smart thing.

Yea I know GT was a pretty bad show, but I watched anyway for the simple fact I am a huge DBZ fan.

I hope they do good on the character development because that was a huge part of the first one, which is why to me it was so good, you actually liked the characters.

I think the reason they are putting it so far ahead maybe to fill in some blanks that came up in the first one. I wonder if their gonna throw in some flashbacks of the first when they refer to previous avatars, and it will be pretty cool to see aang when korra goes into the spirit world, will he be the young aang we all know or the older version of him that we didnt get to see. I think since the first one was so good they have success to build on which is good, but it also means expectations will be high, and I just hope they can deliver.

oh and i forgot probably the most important thing...dragonball gt wasnt even made by the same guy who brought us Dragonball and Dragonball Z

the same guys who worked on Avatar the Last Airbender are working on this so i think its in good hands. i wonder how they will explain Aangs death...hope its good

That is news there about a new avatar cartoon. It would have to be probably in 3D. Plus find a way to keep the characters the way we remember them in the movies.

I love Avatar, I have em all on DVD

I don't know how this will turn out, but it seems pretty interesting. I hope they have a different variety of villains, and not just Fire benders. I think I'm going to watch this though. I usually don't watch cartoons that much, but Avatar is the only cartoon that I watch nowadays, even if they're just reruns.

And I agree with you Philly. I hope to god, that this new series, isn't connected to the movie, in any way, shape, or form.

I'm probably going to avoid the movie though. Just doesn't look that good to me.

                    As for GT..

The only thing I liked about Dragon Ball GT, were the SSJ4 transformations for Goku and Vegeta. Other than that, it's one of the worse animes ever. Even though it wasn't made by Akira, I was expecting it to be at least 'decent', but it wasn't even that. I only watch it for the transformations.

DBZ is my top 5, favorite Anime ever.

DBZ is my favorite hands down. Watched it as a young kid and while I was growing up, some of the best years of my life no doubt lol.

Only Anime I probably like better than DBZ, is Yu Yu Hakusho. DBZ had more episodes than YYH, so I enjoyed it more.

I remember I owned some of the DBZ games for the PS2. Budokai 1-3, I owned. That's how much I loved the show. The Yu Yu Hakusho game for the PS2, unfortuntely, is one of the worst games I've ever played, I'm not kidding.

Those Budokai games were games I could spend hours on just playing. It was a heck of a lot of fun playing as your favorite characters as well. Nothing like the satisfaction of seeing vegeta beat down goku

As for Yu Yu Hakush I was also a huge fan of that. There werent many eps of it in english but it was still a very good anime nevertheless.

My top 5 list would be something along the lines of

                          Dbz
                          Avatar
                          Naruto
                          Yu Yu Hakush
Pokemon ( Not really the biggest fan of it today because after the first few pokemon generations it sorta just went south, but as a little kid you couldnt help but love this show )

Edit: Oh yea I totally forgot one piece which was also a pretty good anime. Also I forgot bleach which is a really good anime that I am a fan of.

                            What about Inuyasha?

I also liked the Afro Samurai flicks a lot, and Full Metal Alchemist is pretty dope.

Avatar is definitely way up there though. Me and the little lady are looking forward to the new series. Hope it lives up to The Last Airbender.

Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators of the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender" talked to Speakeasy today about the new spinoff series, "The Legend of Korra." The new series takes place 70 years after the first show and follows the adventures of a teen girl named Korra.

This is an interview with the creators and goes into much greater depth on the new series.
