  • Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 (confirmed)

Good news for all PS3 owners, Mass Effect 2 is heading to the PS3 around February 2011.. Which is hopefully around the time we get a release for Mass Effect 3. Also instead of the 2 disc that were required on the 360, you'll only need one disc for the PS3 because it'll be running on Blu Ray.

Bad news is that Mass Effect 1 will remain a 360 exclusive, and WILL NOT be ported to the PS3. You will not be able to import your Shepard or the choices you made in Mass Effect 1. And on top of all that, you'll need to know a little about the first game's plot or you won't understand anything in this game. That being said, it was kinda pointless to release it on the PS3 without Mass Effect 1, but at least PS3 owners get to enjoy the game as well. I already own it on my 360, so I don't plan on getting it for my PS3.

Ugh, makes me kind of glad I primarily have xbox. Useless with out ME 1, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
At least PS3 can get that great game, ME 2 is awesome, that counts for something.

Doesn't part of ME 2 get based off what happened in ME 1?

That's like totally cutting out the major perks of the experience.

If I'm not getting full value for the game, I'm not paying full price for it. Simply having to go around and ask people how to fill in plot holes is frustrating enough that although I'd love to play it on PS3, I won't.

It's kind of an all or nothing deal with games like this. That's like getting one Metal Gear game - except worse because your character isn't predicated on choices you made in the last game in MGS.

Nah, Mass Effect is an all or nothing type thing.

For those with a PS3, they're not getting it all, so they're really not getting anything.

      I'll skip it.

Yeah a great deal of what you did in Mass Effect 1, effects what happens in Mass Effect 2, and eventually 3.

And unfortunately for PS3 owners, they'll be stuck with the default choices, which kinda contradicts a lot of stuff that you'd probably want to do in ME1. Importing your character gives you a much better experience than it would not importing.

Meh.. Sony probably did this just to say they were able to take one of the 360's exclusives. But there was no point, you don't bring a trilogy to your system without bringing the prequels as well. Kinda dumb on Sony's part but Microsoft probably doesn't even care at this point. They've already made they're sales with the game, and plus Sony aren't getting their hands on ME1 because Microsoft owns the rights to that game.

Well, I disagree that it's not worth it.

The importing stuff from the first game adds a lot to the value of the game. It makes it freaking amazing. How cool is that?

But at the same time, I was on a different gamer profile when I played ME1, and wasn't able to import my decisions, and didn't have the time to play through the original again just to do that.

ME2 was STILL an amazing game. I could see where they choices came into play though, having played through the first.

You can always read the plotlines from the first before playing the second.

Yeah I agree. My first few playthroughs were without importing my character. But when I started importing my character, I noticed that the experience was so much better. But the game is still enjoyable without it, it's just always a good thing to have with the option. It's just that PS3 owners have neither.

But I still think bringing a trilogy to game console is pointless without the prequels. That's like making a LOTOR Trilogy Blu Ray set, without the first movie included in the set. It would be worthless wouldn't it?

              I did that for MGS.

The thing I ran into is that it can be very confusing, people use lingo in their plot summaries that I don't understand, and it took a lot of time and effort.

I don't have that kind of time any more.

I want the game - the whole game - without having to earn a Ph.D. in history for whatever universe they live in.

Point is... ME2 is a great game... and better than not getting to play at all. What you do and don't do in ME2 will probably have a more direct effect on ME3... which is more likely to make it to PS3 now. You could still get a decent amount of the experience... and it's a great experience. Possibly one of the best overall games I've ever played.

                    Amazing.

Hmm.. I think if Mass Effect 3 was going to be on the PS3 they would've announced it along with ME2. This game comes out around February for PS3, and by that time we should already have a time table for ME3. Or it could very well be out by that time, for the 360 and PC?

And of course, Microsoft could buy the rights for ME3, so it will only be on the 360 like they did with ME1. I wouldn't be surprised if they did that, seeing as ME2 is going on the PS3, that'll really kill PS3 gamers, only getting 1 game of a trilogy.

I've only played through ME1 and it was a very good game. I currently have ME2 but I have only played a small portion of it. Been busy playing other video games such as Football Manager 2010. Most addictive sports game ever created. But I feel though it is pointless to have ME2 on PS3 without ME1 unless people are willing to play through the first one on their PC. It takes away from the game and especially the characters since you'll be missing out on the attachment that comes from learning their background and their relationships.
