Alright, we all know Hollywood is not really trying anymore with plots and originality. They aren't even giving us the courtesy of making it seem like they're trying.
as discussed in another thread, they carbon copy and release "horror" movies off an assembly line, have decided they need to remake every movie they've already made, reboot all the movies they failed at making the first time (even under a 5 or 10 year window), continue to vomit out these terrible "spoof" movies and for some reason green light everything that the guys who made 40 Year Old Virgin and Superbad write or make.
i wonder why they aren't tapping into endless amounts of sources for movie ideas in the millions upon millions of books that are out there? i mean we all know that movies based on books suck worse than the books but every now and then they get one right and most aren't that bad.
there are literally millions of options here. since we're already used to regurgitated stories and plots, why not dive into these more readily?
so many classical works of literature or epic poems etc that they could be making movies about are out there.
it doesn't stop with books either. a lot of people hate the idea that a bunch of video games and comics are getting made into movies. i would agree in principle, but i'm glad they're going that route. they're trying something new. the problem is, they're doing the same thing with comic book and superhero movies as they are with horror movies. just churning them off of an assembly line. they're trying to rush all these single hero movies in order to make the Avengers, and they're now trying to get all these other guys out to maybe revive the JLA project... some of these movies will be good, some will be mediocre and some will be downright terrible (Green Hornet).
also since Hollywood is such a fan of the "based on a true story" idea, why not look into more of these and actually make them accurate? there are thousands of incredible real life stories out there that actually happened.
and i know they try to pop out a period piece now and again but let's get more of those... let's add to the epic genre of film and/or do more biopics on historical figures. can we stop making movies about World War II (okay or just put them on hold for a while) or Vietnam and focus on other wars? older wars, ancient wars etc.
i mean Hollywood has so much to choose from and yet they just decide to vomit mediocrity and it's annoying.
what does everyone else think? what kind of movies would you like to see more of? genres? time frame etc.
the fact is, every story has already been told that there could be, it's a matter of presenting these basic stories in original, thoughtful ways.
