How do M rated games lower the standard by which you live your life?

What you focus on, is who you become. If the music you listen to, tv shows and movies you watch are full of profanity and other sinful behavior at some point you start to us start to use that kind of language in your life. I have simply not to allow the wrong types of thoughts enter my mind.

If you think what you see and hear does not effect you behavior then why do companies spend millions of dollars to get you to by their products?

"I want to live my life by a higher standard."

That is the most egotistical, backhanded, nose in the air comment I think I've EVER heard.

I did not intend it that way. I was not trying to imply that not playing "M" games makes me better then anyone. I was wanting to give the most honest answer I could. Why is "egotistical" to try to become a better person then I am now? If I feel that certain games are not what I should be playing why is that a bad thing? Is that not we ALL should be trying to do every day, trying to improve ourselves?


The only reason I decided to post that I was no longer getting this game is that I started the thread, and I stated numerous times that I was going to get it. It goes back to wanting to live a better life, it was a matter of integrity.


I do not want this thread to detail, or have it closed because it became a "P&R" thread. If anyone wants to continue this please feel free to PM me.

I guess if you feel you can't control allowing what happens in the game to get into your life then that's a good reason to stop playing them, but I've found that I've had no problem preventing what goes on in the games, music, or tv I watch/play/listen to affect how I act.

And it's not like M rates games are the only games that have stuff like that in them.

That is not what I am saying, and I am pretty sure you are smart enough to know this. I am not saying that every that plays GTA is going to steal a car or shoot a hooker. What I am saying that is what you focus on is what you become. If you spend all you energy on negitive thoughts and actions, you become more of a negitive person. Can you honeslty say that you disagree with that?

So you are saying that you did not start doing the Mile High Salute during our Super Bowl run? You have never bought a product you have seen advertised on TV?

I imagine that could be true. I would hope people could have self control though. Are there things you've seen on TV that you've never done? Are there ads you've heard on the radio and you thought... I'm never going to buy that. Just because people see something doesn't mean they let it influence them.

I got so much Vagisil cause that commercial is on EVERYDAY, and I feel this need to buy it.

Then one time I was playing Madden '10 and made a bunch of roster moves, so I decided to become GM of a team, my name is Matt Millen btw...

True, but if you watch something enough times you become immune to it. Think of horror movie for example. When Friday the 13th or Halloween first came out they where what would frighten people. Now horror fans look back at them and laugh. The same thing will happen to the current crop of movies at some point. I for examle do not watch "scary movies", so what most people would not be bothered by would keep me up at night. Another exapmle is some of the shows on Fox. Take for example "The Simpsons", when it first aired it was conterversal. 20 years later look at "Family Guy" and compait it to the early Simpsons. A qoute that sums it up best is "It is a slow fade when black and white become gray".

I'm a huge mark for films as well. You should start speaking for yourself and not try to apply the same laws to every human being. And you're making it sound like it's just M games that will "influence" you. If you want to live by a higher standard why not just give up gaming period? M games are just like T and E games. They're all games.

To a degree you are right I am choosing to not play these games because I no longer want them effecting me any more. You say they do not negatively affect you. That is not something I can disprove, nor can you prove it. We do not know how different you might be if you had not played them. However, to say that what anyone watches, reads, or listens to does not effect them at some level is wrong. I will once again go back to advertising. Companies spend Billions of dollars trying to us to buy there products. If what we see does not effect us why do they do it. You say you are a movie mark, has a movie ever changed the way you view something? Has one ever made you laugh or cry? Of course they have.


If what we watch does not effect us why was there talk about the " violent rhetoric" on TV brough up after that Congress Women was shot?

The bottom line is whether you chose to admit it or not people can be effected by what they watch.

I finally watched the trailer for this game and it looks pretty darned good. I may have to pick this one up since I've been a fan of most of the Rockstar games.

Underrated? This is a Rockstar game we're talking about..

However it's no where near the hype machine that GTA4 was, it's probably around the same as Red Dead.
