Like I said before, any major release title has been tailored to the largest market, and that is pretty much the average joe. Not the competitive guys.

I have no idea about the PS3 community on Killzone but I can safely say that being one of the best on a game like Battlefield, Crysis, or Gears means pretty much nada compared to being one of the actual best on Call of Duty. Not a random GB player with a decent team record, a youtube account, and an ego - one of the best. Mainly because the name of the game you're playing holds so much weight nowadays, not because the game takes more skill or whatever, the community is just huge and popular (for the right or wrong reasons, it doesn't matter much). If this was about pure skill games would not have evolved past point-shoot-dead gameplay mechanics and we'd all be taking faces playing CS:S on the PC.

It sounds like a couple of you should be posting on GB about stuff like this instead of on here since the casual gamer and the guys who play competitively experience completely different things when they play FPS games. A football forum is not the best place to get worked up about it... even if there is jack all to talk about in GD at the moment aside from the legal shenanigans.

Like I said before, you're right, I'm just saying Halo is geared more towards those types of gamers, mainly due to it's complex storyline, which as you know, most casual gamers don't care about, they want to pick up and play, and enjoy the game. Halo is a little harder to follow since it's mixed with prequels, and cliffhangers. If you're a hardcore gamer, I'm sure you'd look for more in a game than just it's playability, and like I said, most casual gamers don't care about the excess stuff, like storylines, voice acting, replay value, all that stuff. Just my opinion.

I'll be the first admit that I'm not the best on CoD, I did however managed to maintain a positive k/d ratio, when I used to play on my cousin's 360, that was only with CoD4 and Black Ops though. I honestly don't remember what I got in MW2. Killzone 3 my current k/d is 1.24, and Killzone 2 it's 1.11

Hey, there won't be any football so what else is there to talk about aside from something in the 'anything but football' section?

i don't think Madden has any problem selling it's games every year despite how little they change. This year would be no different. Either MORE people will buy it out of fear there will be no football next fall, or the same amount of people will continue to buy it. There may be people who choose not to because they may not update rosters (due to the Lockout etc).

i will likely be buying Madden this year. i haven't bought one since '09. however, i may be one of those that chooses to wait again due to the Lockout.

i thought the storyline of MW1 and 2 was good enough. It did span two installments after all so it's not a "short" campaign by any means.

very true. there are notable names voicing the actors of CoD games these days. i know you can find similar stories in other games but that does tend to dampen the "we really don't care about the campaign aspect"

when they released Medal of Honor again, they claimed they worked really hard on the campaign and multiplayer but the latter really really sucked and the campaign was like 5 levels or something.

    so.... you bought it then?

Bottom line: these are games about shooting and nothing more. that's their main purpose. lots of ammo and firepower and cool noises and explosions like a summer blockbuster. this spans ALL FPSs, not just CoD. every last one of them has the same template. point. shoot. move on.

this notion that CoD is easier is nonsense. the difference between a hard-core gamer and a casual gamer is overall game time played and the number of real world social events attended (heheh jk but not really). also one gets paid to play video games and the other one doesn't.

every dev has their own style and template. Madden is super easy because EA never changes the controller layout (except when they switched the location of turbo).

IW and Treyarch don't change their controller set up either. why would/should they? Heavier mechanics? what. you don't just add buttons to the controller and make it harder. every FPS or video game in general has utilized every button on whichever consoles that is possible for some function or other.

the only difference is switching between one game and the other and getting used to a new button setup. unless any of these FPSs have bs movements and button combinations like Heavy Rain did, then there's no true difference. just location and functionality of each button.

you're kidding yourself if you think one game has this vastly superior and complicated setup over another in this genre. the controls have basically been the same since GoldenEye lol.

ultimately it comes down to preference. one person likes FPSs involving aliens and sci-fi, another likes the one that attempts more real-world combat... at their core they're all the same. one might look prettier than the other or even make you push an extra button to shoot, but in the end... it's like trying to find the difference between horror movies. they're all the same really.

i'll tell you what game is much worse than CoD, and that was Haze. wow that game was terrible. and yet, it was exactly the same as Halo and CoD and all the others... and maybe that's where it failed.

btw: unless you are sponsored and actually make money and win company sponsored tournaments, you're a casual gamer also

that's like telling someone who rides those little child sized bikes and is really awesome at tricks and knows everything about the "sport" and can take his bike apart and put it back together and everything but uh... he still doesn't do it for a living...that he's a hardcore X-Gamer bike trick guy or whatever they call themselves lol.

this whole thread is awesome. ultimately Amari/Insane and whoever else. it's all about preference. you have both been using movies as examples... well there's your answer right there. every branch of the entertainment industry is driven by individual preference and perception of aesthetic value.

video games are no different. it's fun to make a thread just to complain and rant... but ultimately, it just reveals that that's all you intended to do is argue about this particular video game and for whatever reason, try to prove your point and why you're superior in gaming to everyone else.

that's fine, but don't try to cover that up. if you didn't want a fight and an argument you wouldn't create a thread about something you don't like. at least i wouldn't.

i argue with people about movies all the time. i know for a fact in my own mind that i am a better judge of movies than anyone on these boards save for maybe KB, but that doesn't mean people are going to agree with me all the time or like movies i like and so forth. it also doesn't mean i'm just going to go out and create a thread about Slumdog Millionaire to prove a point etc.

*shrugs* you're going to call me off base and i may be and again that's fine, but this entire thread is filled with a seemingly one-sided discussion on a topic that really doesn't matter. there's a lot of "i'm right and you're wrong" talk going on in here and the funny thing is, there seem to only be 2 or 3 that disagree with the rest of the posters in the thread. not that that says a whole bunch.

the point is: if you want to discuss, discuss. but don't continue to put others down and chastise them for buying a game they like to play just because you don't like it. if you don't like it, don't play it, talk about it, buy it (insane [based on your post anyway]) or anything. just go buy the game you actually want to play and get on with your life. lol

nothing stated in this thread is going to convince anyone not to buy MW3 or what have you. and nothing stated in this thread is going to convince anyone to buy Crysis instead. people will buy what they like to play and they'll play the games THEY think is fun. not what YOU think is fun.

I didn't even read the whole thing yet, but I will.

But I don't own Black Ops, my cousin has, when my friends want to play zombies or random crap, I ask him can i play it

MW3 is like Madden this year, very few people will be grabbing this years Madden, but thats mostly from being annoyed by paying $60 bucks for a new roster, so I guess you can say, your paying $60 bucks a weapons upgrade.

I know most shooters people play mostly because multiplayer, but I'm not spending $60 just to play multiplayer, a good storyline wouldn't hurt.

Did you even read anything I typed? I said Halo is targeted towards hardcore gamers, I never said hardcore gamers were the only ones who play it. Just like CoD is targeted towards casual gamers, I'm sure there are hardcore gamers who buy/play it.

CoD isn't crap, it's pure crap. It used to be good, but after MW1, the franchise when downhill. I don't care how many units it sold/sells. Spiderman 3 sold well, but that didn't stop it from being a piece of crap film. Sorry if it hurts your feelings that I don't like CoD, the Lakers, Celtics, or any of those music stars. I honestly don't care.

Halo is an easy game, infact id say easier than CoD.
    Halo easier than CoD...

Not really, not liking something is not the same thing as being a hater.

A hater hates because of jealous, popularity, etc. My dislike for CoD has nothing to do with it's name or popularity.

The logic of anybody that dislike something makes them a "hater" is kinda dumb.

I dislike Bin Laden, am I hating on him? I disliked Super-man movies, does that mean I'm a hater? No it means I DON'T LIKE IT.

If CoD was some small game, in it had the issues it have now, I would still dislike it. I don't hate on it's name or popularity, I dislike the video game.

As for the Halo is easy comment, every game is easy depending on who you play against, but the fact of the matter of where me and others try to point is that CoD games are easier, and being a big name cod player, doesn't have the same weight as being a big name killzone, halo, gears, battlefield, crysis, etc player. Maybe to the casual gamer, but to the hardcore, elites, devs, tournament players, etc being one of the best in cod means nothing. In that has to do with the ease of the game, not it's flaws or the goods of the game.
