Nintendo Set to Reveal New Console

Nintendo always innovates new ways to control games.

First thumb-stick (N64). Became standard.

First touchscreen used as control (DS).

First motion control (Wii).

Now first controller for a console that has a visible screen on it, and touchscreen to boot.

They constantly think of ways to engage new people into games, by making them fun and accessible.

Who cares about the sweaty-armpit-basement-dwelling-nose-whistle crowd of hard core gamers?

I have to agree with DoomTrooper. Nintendo 64 the worst Nintendo console? What about Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Party, etc. etc. etc......

While I disagree with the hardcore gamer comment(love my PS3 and consider myself a hardcore gamer), the Nintendo comments are part of the reason I love them. They think outside the box.

Actually the Dreamcast was the first controller to have a screen on it.

I said "the worse Nintendo console not named the VB". The sales show that the N64 was a huge let down to gamers. Most classify it as an unworthy successor to the SNES. Also Mario 64 is terrible.. and I already gave my opinion on Zelda.

I feel like the only way Nintendo can really be popular again is if they take the whole nostalgia approach, although that would cripple them long term but I don't see them making a comeback regardless

Oh yeah -- but it wasn't a touchscreen so still.

Touchscreen gaming is becoming very dominant in the iPhone and Android world.

My kids play Angry Birds all the time. What a boring game. Now I know how parents felt when Rock and Roll music game out.

I didn't know you personally took a poll from "most Nintendo fans" to be able to make such a bold statement like that. I'm not going to pretend I know most Nintendo fans, nor am I going to plagiarize something I read in GameInformer, but I'm pretty sure you're dead wrong on that.

The N64 gave us the thumbstick and rumblepak, man! Please.

The N64 is still my favorite console to this day. The amount of great games it brought us is unmatched.

n64 may or may not have had good sales figures but it did have some great games as some have already mentioned.

also, to mention golden eye as the only good n64 game while not including perfect dark, is kind of questionable to be honest.

even though i thought golden eye was great as well, perfect dark might have been better.

and yes, Zelda ocarina of time is one of the best games ever made on any console, in my opinion as well.

I couldn't care less about how I control the game I play, almost everybody I know who really play videogames and doesn't just view them as a weekend hobby hates the Wii's motion controls, is overall just pissed off with their library of games, and hasn't played the console in months.

A console is made by it's library of games, and increasingly by it's online services. The Wii fails at both of those, and if their next console is going to "recapture the hardcore audience", it's going to have to do those things really well, and not throw another gimmicky control scheme our way, and only offering a couple remakes of twenty year old franchises every once in a while.

Every system has good games on it, the Virtual Boy may have not been a good system, but it still had a few exceptional games. So just saying, "it had good games" doesn't really mean anything. I could name many great games on any system that's bad or didn't do well.

Also, I never said GoldenEye was the only good game on the N64, I said it's the only one that I liked, and it's the only one I find worth mentioning, and no, Perfect Dark isn't anywhere near as good as GoldenEye.

I tried Ocarina of time and it was horrible to me. It might be a good game, I'm not denying that, but it's just not my type of game, none of the Zelda game's are.

It had more hype than the Playstation 1 and Saturn combined, and everyone expected the N64 to blow both consoles out of the water, and to be the best Nintendo console to date. Didn't happen.

PS1 destroyed the N64 in the US, Europe, and Japan, the three biggest gaming markets. It got completely decimated by the Saturn in Japan. It only beat the Saturn in the US because Sega of America failed miserably with the Saturn's marketing. The N64 was clearly a let down, you'd have to be born 5 years ago not to know that.

And if the N64 isn't the worst Nintendo console, what is? All of you guys keep saying it's not, but you aren't naming me any others. And before anyone blurts out the Virtual Boy, I originally said, "The worse Nintendo console NOT named the Virtual Boy". Since that's the case, you have 5 consoles to choose from. N64, NES, SNES, Gamecube, and Wii.
