i bought my ps3 in feb of 2010
i love it, not just for the games but for the netflix, the mlbtv (you have to be a subscriber to both of those to use the service) and streaming videos to my tv via ps3 and a program called ps3 media server running on my pc.
i've found their store cards to be very easy to use, and i love the ps store, and being a playstation plus member.sigpic

I know everyone rides the "360 is the best" train, but I wouldn't give my PS3 for a 360 on 360's best day.
I know the system is great and all that, and Halo is awesome, but for me games are already very expensive, and having to shell out an extra $60.00 a year just to play online is kinda irksome. I also don't like how they do a point system to buy things. You always end up with an odd amount of points left over that you end up having to spend more cash on just to get enough to make up the difference. I know I'm just griping about it, but it bothers me.
Don't get me wrong. PS3 has it's own share of things that need improvement, but they all seem pretty minor. I guess for me it's a money issue. Some people see the online fee and think "Meh, no big deal" and that's fine. For me it's like paying extra for something I already own. I'm also a firm believer in not paying for something I can get for free. It's just good, sound advice.
Now that the PS3 has dropped in price I think it's a good investment.
The only major complaint anyone seems to have about the system is the design of the controllers compared to the 360, but I think that's more of a personal preference. Is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me?

As for the things you mentioned about the 360 like 60 bucks for XBL, I agree that it's a little over the top with the price of games today, not to mention you sometimes have to pay $10 if you buy a used game. At the same time, XBL is a really good service, I like it better than PSStore, even though PSStore is 100% free, and Sony are putting out some really good deals that are making PS+ worth it, but I don't think it's as good as XBL, at least not yet.
MSP's don't bother me that much either, I mean you're going to be spending more of them when the newest DLC is out, so I don't have a problem with having 153 of them left over, I know you can't buy anything with them, but when I buy more all it does is add more to my total amount which is fine.
As for the controller I like the DS3 more than the 360. I only like the 360 controller more for shooters, DS3 for everything else.

And yes, I MUCH MUCH MUCH prefer the 360 controller. I want to throw the PS3 controller against the wall
I like owning both systems. I use my 360 for all the games available for both systems and the PS3 for their exclusive games so I'm not missing out on games anymore. I agree with Amari, the 360 losing all of it's exclusives sucks though, especially Mass Effect.sigpic
