How many games have even utilized the 1080p resolution?

I agree, they wanted the PS3 on the market for 10 years, they can release the PS4 in 2014, and officially discontinue the PS3 in 2016. By that time, it'd be a 10 year lifespan for the PS3. Good plan on Sony's part. If they can sort out the security issues, they could end up stealing the next gen. It's good to see that they're staying aggressive and not losing hope. They literally can't afford to come in last place again.

    Oh... I see:

The PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform--when we'll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that--but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there." (Emphasis added.)
Okay, then that's what I expected. They've probably been working on the PS4 since before the PS3 came out. This is kind of a no-brainer to me. Sure, they're working on it. It's not going to be soon though.

Okay, that makes more sense to me.

I have to admit that I'm truly stunned. It seems to me that the current generation of games has yet to truly test the potential of either the 360 or the PS3.

Why on Earth are they creating a new product for which there is no real demand? I guess they hope to survive off of technocrats and impractical consumers until the current generation is actually obsolete, but really, the current generation is nowhere near obsolete.

They have yet to test the limits of either system in terms of gaming.

I gotta admit, depending on when they plan to push it to market... I'm genuinely surprised.

If they're just announcing it now and they plan to release it a few years down the road, that's one thing. If it's going to be soon though, then I genuinely have to admit that I don't see the reasoning behind releasing a product that there's no need for, especially in a rough economy where people are making more fundamentally intelligent decisions.
